RAS Stage 6

Well you know when you have being on a bender for a long weekend and your in work on Tuesday and your body is in bits and switches into autopilot and you can't get enough fluid into you, well thats what stage 6 was like. A 135km route with 4 KOM's the first a cat 2 at 60km then glengesh a cat 1 at 101km followed by another 2 cat 2's, today again survial, I thought I wouldn't get over the first climb in the bunch but I was hoping I would! On the run up to the first KOM you could feel the bunch was going to blow to bits, with tired bodies moving to the front to try and get sliding room, I did the same but over the top I lost contact with the bunch and to cut a long story long I drove hard, very hard caught a few people and a few caught me the group was big enough and we kind off worked to try and get back on but there was no point, we eased at the 90km as people knew what was coming, another savage climb, Glengesh, again I can't explain how hard this was, 20% + in places again great crowds on the roads made it a bit easier, but no TV crew this time!! I was too far back!! At the start a dutch pro called panio "easy - steady" but even this was hard and the group split and I was tailed off by 150m over the top, but got back on after a all out down hill, were my ears even poped after that it was just rolling through to get home, but it was the hardest few km i have ever done at one stage I felt like going asleep as my body just couldn't turn the pedals, i knew a small increase in the pace or any jumping and I was out the back, the next few km were as long as friday afternoon in work and with 2 cat 2 KOM left, I came up with a plan, I stayed at the front and cycled them at my own pace and hoped no one would come around so I paced the group which work, then I just started to count down the signs 10Km 5km 4km 3km 2km 1km 500m as I crossed the line I told a team mate who was in my group that they would find me here (inbetween to parked cars), just fell off and lay in the group, It was the closest I have coming to in crying for years, my body just told me it didn't like what I was doing with it. Showered changed masage dinner and sleep and I hope I'm ready for tomorrows 161km stage, I'm looking at it as the last satge as nothing will stop me finishing when I start on Sunday I dont care if I break both arms and legs some one will just have sit me on the bike and I'll bite hard on a car bumper and they can toll me to Skeeries. "One more day thats it"

The spelling and words are all mixed (predictive text) up on these posts as i'm wirting them with my phone, sorry.

Keep it going Daragh. Great to read the reports. Good to hear your down hill skills keep you in the race. Sounds like some pain and suffering but youre getting through it. Well done.
I drove over this gap on Monday in the Subaru and even though it's the torquiest thing with 4WD it was groaning! Plus the road has grass down the middle so some sections are lethal.theres one right hander and i thought we were hitting a wall its that steep! We remarked, without knowing, how horrible it would be to cycle, amazing to Do and never mind in a race. Your home now morty, mentally you have killed the beast, fair ****s to you only an earthquake will stop you now.
Well done Morty, you'r still going well , that's the main thing. Brian Delaney wishes you all the best.
John.
