EPIC Road Corner

We had a good Epic showing at the Hammond Memorial race in Roundwood today, myself, John Dorris, Stu and Steve were flying the Epic colours along with Peter Buggle and few MAD riders. The circuit was 2laps for the A4’s (40k) and 3(60k) for the A3’s a bit short but what it lacked in distance it made up for in altitude, the race started just outside Roundwood and ending up going onto the N11 and then up a savage climb which dragged on for 5+km. 3 people were up the road going into the last lap but going up the climb for the last time it all got strung out and bodies were dropping everywhere, Peter managed to bridge the gap to the lead riders and managed to finish 3rd, great result, I rolled in 9th with John close behind. Stu and Steve got on very well in the A4 race, they didn’t managed to go with the break of about 15 rider but tried to bridge the gap and ended up have a great race between themselves ahead of the main bunch, not sure who made it across the line first between them thou.

Great days racing and a few more closet roadies are coming out!! Next race is the Emyvale GP next Sunday up North, but clashes with the NPS.

Savage riding by all today, just shows we can mix it up off and on the road.

I am impressed and inspired..a senior rider has just bought a roadbike..he wants to have a go..
I love to see a road team in the club..I'm not a cyclist and never will be..but I appreciate the hardness and the ability of people who give it so much dedication.

Anyway.. that was an experience. Jumped across to the break on the fast decent, but probably spent myself doing so. Couldn't stick with them on the N11, and fell off the back. Very frustrating, as there is nothing you can do. once in the wind on your own its bye bye....
But Got caught by 4 more, including Steve, so wan't a lonley experience. we broke free on the climb, and worked together, but never saw the others again. Good event though, takes a lot out of ya. the decent was cool. nice n'fast.

Couldn't believe the group got away from me so quickly, Morty said to keep up in the first 15 or so but like a shy little boy I stayed near the back for the rolling start and by the time I hit the n11 the bunch were powering ahead of a lonely me, should of listened to the pro! Good to have Stewart around to keep some momentum up. Some great decending by Stewart down Killiskey, he was pedalling around corners and I thought his pedals would tip the ground and send him flying!Well done Epic, I'll be back for more.......
