EPIC MTB Garda Vetting

Hi again,

Were starting to get enquiries from younger members to attend spins. Two weeks ago we had Sean and Sam a pair of highly skilled young riders both under 18.
For those helping with development spins or willing to take younger riders on club spins we must address the area of Garda vetting.

This is a very simple process. You must be vetted separately to any other Garda vetting you hold. So for example if you are Garda vetted for GAA team, you still need new Garda vetting for EPIC MTB.

The only condition is the form is printed onto one page (front/back). There is no cost to the process. This is also once off, not annually.

I totally understand some members are EPIC for senior spins only. It would be prudent for all others to complete.

How about appointing someone to run spins for Junior members? Would be easier to have a couple of vetted users who run spins once a month for U18's?

Are you sure you need it for every activity you might be involved in where kids are in attendance? I'm already vetted through the Irish Foster Care Association and Tusla the Child and Family Agency, you would assume that these things are transferable. I remember them saying to us that it could take up to 6 months to receive the clearance from the guards which I thought was nuts but it all makes sense now if they are vetting the same person over and over again depending on the activity! It's a bit Irish isn't it?

That's the GAA issue, multiple Garda vetting.

As to appointing someone for younger rider spins. Well its the old chestnut who wants to take responsibility on.

Most likely it would be an EPIC MTB member with a teenager looking to create these as specific spins. Regarding once a month, I would suppose the younger rider would want more regular spin time. I train an under 14 camogie team twice a week and match on weekends, so once there interested the get committed.
