Ballinastoe Blitz Training Group

Hi all,

I’m hoping to do some of the Biking Blitzes this year, starting with Ballinastoe so seeing if there’s any interest in getting a training group together. Not much involved, just a few spins around the course between now and 7th Feb. Maybe a Strava group to track progress.

All welcome, but especially the less competitive members of the club who have done little or no racing but want to do more, or those that made a new year's resolution to get out on the bike more but you know, it’s cold out, and that looks like rain over Ticknock, and Tresea Manion said not to make unnecessary journeys so best not to take any chances. Good to set a goal to work towards.

Let me know if you’re interested and we might kick things off this Saturday.

Good stuff

Few pointers for what they are worth do all your racing on the fire roads recover on the singletrack you tend to get stuck behind people. Always worth putting an extra burst toward the end of the fire road to over take a few people before entering the single track.

Oh and ride within your limits Balinastoe is fast and there is lots of hard stuff to hit if you should fall.

I love these races, but unfortunately Ill miss the Ballinastoe blitz as I've a stag so enjoy everyone.
Ha, an obvious difference between and Enduro and Xc, I give it socks on the single track and take it easy on the fireroads! Ye, ballinastoe blitz has a tough start, you really need the muscles warmed up to sprint from the start to the first single track to avoid the bottleneck, hard to do cos a lot of technically useless roadies get there first and block the way!

yea yea yea but have you had a baby yet??
Going to start the Blitz training this Saturday, 16th Jan, meeting at the Ballinastoe car park at 9am. All welcome!

Depending on numbers the format will be something like,
Lap 1 - Slow paced lap to warm up and get familiar with the course.
Lap 2 - Timed race pace lap of course.
Lap 3 - Staggered start race, where the slowest go first based on results of lap 2.
After that, maybe another lap, maybe practice some of the trickier bits of the course, maybe practice wheelies or just get a coffee.

That should take about an hour, so I guess some of the other Ballinastoe trails after that.

I’ve started a strava group to track training events and progress so please feel free to add yourself,

Kieran, just for the sake of clarity, you are planning on doing 4 laps, which is 56km in total, whereas the Blitz is two laps for the Elites and one lap for sports...
D'oh! I was confusing it with the Ticknock blitz which is two laps for Baggy shorts.

Sorry if I scared anyone off. Let's see how we get on after a lap or two.
Great spin out, Kieran, Mal and myself. We picked up a straggler from Cork MTB. Good start for the Blitz!
