My Felt City X3 Hybrid Bike that was stolen on 10th July has now appeared for sale on Adverts.ie.
There are lots of photos so I can see 100% that it is my bike. Same unique lights that don't come with the bike, back tyre was recently replaced with new one with white stripe on it, same as on the one for sale.
Now the problem is I have searched high and low at home but can't find any documentation that I got with the bike that has the frame number on it. I contacted the store where I bought it and they don't have records from August 2010 when I bought it.
I do have a receipt from BikeToWork which shows the make and model and frame size and the name of the shop where I bought it.
I am also requesting a copy of the receipt from where I got the new tyre.
The Guards said they can't help me unless I have the serial number.
It is very frustrating that I can see my bike for Sale and be powerless to get it back. He is asking 360 for it. I signed up as a user and offered him 300 and he accepted it and we are supposed to be meeting this evening.
Someone at work suggested I PM the seller and just tell him that it is my bike and that I am looking for the serial number and should have it soon, and that as soon as I do, I will be contacting the Guards. Then ask him if we can settle this between us as I assume he bought it off someone else and if I cover the cost of how much he paid for it, will he accept that.
On the other hand if a couple of lads could come with me to meet him, that could be another option.
The seller is called awesomevix and he has loads of positive feedback on Adverts.ie and has sold 85 items and has another 117 items for sale at the moment.
I think Niall Quinlan had the same problem.
I wouldn't give him the heads up that it is your bike either.
A bunch of heavies to go with you might be a good option......is anybody here a garda and willing to help?
I'm with Caroline. That's a Shit load of stuff to be selling on adverts. Could very well be the same guy that stole it.
I had the same problem when my hardtail was stolen. Only I let the seller know and both the the bike and seller vanished from adverts.
Don't tell him it's yours. Arrange to meet him in a carpark of the local supermarket and bring your friends. These scum shouldn't be able to get away with this.

Ask the Gards in Blanch to join you, they are not too far away....
Went to the Guards in Blanch village but they said they can't help unless I have the serial number. The distributer for felt bikes is trying to find a record of the bike being supplied to City Cycles to see if it contains the frame number.
They have probably filed the serial number off anyway don't mind the guards get stuck in your self , have somebody hide with a baseball bat and shout if it gets messy.
I went to Cabra garda station instead, which was the one that I initially went to, to report the bikes stolen.
The guy never replied to my message so I assumed he wasn't going to meet me at 8pm so decided to go to Cabra garda station to ask if they could help as I had the bike receipt and receipt for the new tyre which matches the one on the bike for sale.
While they kept me waiting, I checked my phone and saw that the guy sent me a message at 7:45pm saying he would meet me where I had suggested. I told the cops and then one of them changed into plain clothes. He was a young looking guy and he didn't look like a cop at all. He had a hoody and tracksuit bottoms on him, guy in his early 30s.
We got into a garda car with a female cop and she drove at full speed with sirens and all as quick as possible up the Navan road, it was quite exciting.
She dropped us off around the corner from the meeting point and I ran ahead and spotted a man and a girl beside my bike. I went up by myself first and started looking at the bike and checking it out. Then the cop came up and I gave him the nod that it was definitely my bike. He asked the guy a few questions, and next thing he is telling the guy he is under arrest and told him put his hands up against the wall and he handcuffed him, he also handcuffed the girl, she looked about 15 years old, I think it was his daugher. I heard the cop say "don't f***ing move or I will taze you" as he cuffed them. They didn't resist.
I jumped on my bike and cycled away, back to Cabra garda station to get my car.
They are questioning him down at the station at the moment.
I told the cop about the guys profile on adverts.ie , that he has over 100 items for sale and had a total of 285 adverts on the site. He said he would check it out and see if there are any items reported stolen on it.
I also told him about my boardman bike that was stolen at the same time. He made a note of that too.
So that is it, I was never so happy cycling that bike home. I can't believe I got it back. There is hope.
