Your Cycling Achievements/Best moments 2016

hi
we did this last year and going for it again, going to try and compile a list of what club members did this last year race results
sportives attended best spins etc

me first

best memories
holidaying up north with the hooligans
1st place master at the xc national championships
finished my toughest gorey three day road race to date having gotten caught in a crash on the first day and chased for over 100k on my own (best bit was the flash hotel we stayed in)
to many excellent spins to mention
raced most or all of the xc nps series in s1 cat (too hard!)
no enduros for me this year....have to fix that for next year
raced the ticknock and ballinastoe blitz
of course the club league
and second place at the club champs to the living legend john doris
Myself, Oscar,Andy and Adrian, sudety challenge, 6 days of pain, and we aced it! I came 6th, can't remembers the lads results. Every spin was deadly, but bike park sticks out as being extra great craic
Weeklong Mtb escape to North Wales, including a trip up and down Snowdon

Cooley Thriller, Burren Mtb challenge, 2 West Coast Sportifs ( road)
Won 1 Club Race (sadly only made 3)
Sadly no NPS's but hope to work on that next year

was on loads and loads of club spins - all were just excellent
got many high-5s
had my best times at the club league since 2012 - so was happy with that - plan to do more spins etc. in 2017
congrats to all who did so well in all the competitions etc. that they did! amazing set of results for the club!
A year of firsts for me!

• First race – the Ballinastoe and Ticknock Blitz – nervous as hell before them but loved that post race high!
• Dirty Dames Enduro – highlight being the Prosecco half way through – every race should have Prosecco! And came third – so happy days….
• Bike Park! Was just nonstop fun!
• Club League – really really enjoyed this – brilliant encouragement all the way round from everyone – and good craic.
• Dragging my ass around the club spins! And slowly beginning to feel that I’m slightly more fit than I was at the beginning!
• First go on the Boardwalk up Djouce – terrifying but deadly (not literally)

All in all a great year - am loving it!
• First MTB race at the Blitz - did 3 and placed in each one
• Few club league races
• New big bouncy bike
• 1st S3 at Ticknock NPS on big bouncy bike
• Paris Roubaix sportive, Cooley (lesson learned, would advise training for both of these)
• Dirty Dames; every race needs prosecco, bacon and legions of women
• 1st at Corkagh Park crit
• Week’s mountain biking in NI/Donegal
• Week of road and gravel cycling as part of a friend’s wedding celebrations in Cabo de Gata (except our foolish attempt at Calar Alto in 35C heat)
• Didn’t make it out on as many club spins as planned. Must do more next year
• Defying doctor’s orders to do The Last Blast – it was worth it
• Cyclocross
Jaysus I was just happy with getting back on the bike after a 3 year absence......My first club race was a 22 minute lap when I returned... ......Anyone who just had kids see you in 3 years ......
- Mountain Biking in Australia (wearing my EPIC jersey!)
- Enduro club photo at Balinastoe
- New Cotic
Highs

Training with the lads over the winter - most memorable spin was chasing Dorris and Gav around the Maulin/Djouce loop on my own in the dark (not recommended but it was fun)
Ticknock Blitz - First time doing the 'Pros' (hard but fun)
Organising the club league - the Hill Climb was most memorable in terms of coming around the corner from Marley to see 40+ mountain bikers rearing to go; class. I had some great battles with Andy, Mick and Connor Murphy during the first half of the season and got under 12 minute laps.
EPIC NPS in Djouce - Came fourth (close but no prize - must try harder)
Cooley Thriller - Got shot out the back after two punctures in quick succession in the first 5km (thanks to Brian Webber for the tubes and pump) and spent the race trying to get back as many places as I could.
Watching Evan 'warm up' for the Grangecastle kids race by doing about 50 laps :-)
Grange Castle CX - 9th in the Bs and well placed for Kilternan (Not to be)

Lows:
Missing most of the Saturday spins
NPS in Lady Dixon (I hated the downhill start, absence of any climbs to speak of and the mud)
Breaking my collar bone training for the Kilternan race.

Objectives for next year:
a. Spend time working on technique (as well as the fitness)
b. Crash less (See a.)
c. Win a race (See a. and b.)
d. Get out more (win the lotto?)
e. Have more fun (not sure this is possible but I'll give it a go)
f. Don't break any bones (see a. and b.)
g. Organise an even better Club League
Poland stage race and mega spins preparing for it. Sitting out the back of chalet with Erica and Andy after stage 2 talking shite about how deadly we were.
Ulster League in Belfast. Best race iv had in ages.
Cooley thriller... never disappoints.
Top of list for me this year has to Poland MTB Challenge. Never thought I’d get through the 6 days straight and all that climbing.
All those longs spins leading up to Poland.
Club league - beating PBs from last year and all those great battles.
Cooley Thriller
Great Dublin bike ride for the crack.
Epics NPS :)
Still being allowed be a member of Epic while doing even less Mountainbiking than last year...sad face.
Winning a round of the club league ( it's the little things) and the trip to Tipp (BPI). Low levels of fitness and no big mountain spins this year, have to change both next year.
