Just a little insight into something I am doing this year for the benefit of people not on facebook.
This year I'm going to focus on something that will be a huge challenge and take a lot of work to get through. I want to use the time and effort to help raise a few quid for a friend of mine who sustained life changing injuries in a motorcycle accident last year. Anyone that knows Philip Mc Nally knows how much work he put in to his motorcycle career and how much of an athlete he is. It's very close to home for me and it will push me to not only complete this event but do as well as I can. He no longer has the use of the lower part of his body and is wheelchair bound.
So I've entered the Team Joe Barr Coastal 330. The race will start in Derry on the 23rd of May and will do a loop of the Wild Donegal coast consisting of 330 miles (529km) and just over 5,900m climbing all done solo non-stop. I will have a support crew with me which will consist of a follow vehicle and an auxiliary vehicle which will need to be manned. I have never done anything like this before but have showed a huge interest in these type of events and it was only a matter of time before I dived in at the deep end and took part in one.
This will definitely be one of the toughest things I will ever have done on a bike both physically and mentally. I've already started in the training prep but I will have to learn a lot along the way. The longest I've ever raced on my MTB has been 4 hours but I am fully aware this will be a different type of animal. Pacing and mental resilience will be key and I am in no way complacent about what lays ahead.
I have set up a gofundme page at the link below. I also have set up a facebook page to keep people up to date on fundraising events I will be doing and also on the progress before and during the event. I will also be seeking sponsors to be displayed on my kit and volunteers who will be willing to help out on the team.
I'm both really excited and really nervous about this but at the end of the day I have the luxury to be able to do something like this and not all of us do.

No donation is too small so please don't be shy.
Thanks
