Towbar.

Hi all,

Has anyone had a towbar fitted recently? Malcom’s is quoting me €375 for a swan neck with electrics. Apparently you now need electrics to pass NCT.
Flange head isn’t fitted in this garage for my car.

Has anyone gotten a towbar installed elsewhere that might be cheaper? Probably have to buy a tow bar mounted bike rack too so the costs are mounting.

Yeah, that price would be about right, on my last car they quoted over 500,but bought it for I think maybe 200/250 and Oscar fitted it, but without the electrics

Thanks Erica. Not sure if I would be up for fitting it myself so probably better to pay the money. Apparently it’s 60 quid cheaper without the electrics but my car will fail the NTC? Not sure how true that is or if they’re trying to get more money.

I didn't have the electrics done for my nct, they went to plug in the electric board to test it.. .. But no where to plug it into! So they couldn't test it, and it passed

Just to follow up...

I ordered the tow bar from Micks garage for €130 and a local mechanic fitted it for €120. €250 total as opposed to what I was being quoted elsewhere.

I also emailed the NTC centre to ask about the electrics and they said it’s not a requirement.
