Well what can I say, I am bloody proud to be a member of EPIC today! We had a great turn out and pulled in some great results. The highlights for me;
- Richard L putting in a savage performance in his first sports race
- Adamski storming home in Sports
- Sylvia dominating Womens
- AL S playing a blinder in Masters
- Hearing someone say "I've never seen Luke without a smile on his face" as I crashed through the gully on my 4th lap.
We have some serious athlete's in the club who put in some amazing performance's (Alfie and John - you savages) but the best part about racing is seeing the new members giving its socks during the race and having the craic after wards.
Well I am very disappointed that the "athlete's haircut" didn't make me faster. Although I may have proved on Lap 4 that I'm a quicker hillwalker than Luke...
ok..it might seem that i am being overly positive about todays events, thats only because the Club had a great day and we had the craic..and i'm extremely proud of the riders and the supporters.
I really like supporters..they nearly mean more to me than the racers..after all they only come to cheer us on..
i give up a lot of time to lead spins and encourage people, i really appreciate it when members then turn up and cheer me on !!
I don't think thats a lot to ask.
I would like to thank Karl Thomas especially today, he tried his best to steer Sorrento in the right direction, he made a brilliant course for the kids and he was a brilliant supporter.

I think it was a missed opportunity for people to discover why some of us love XC racing.
The course was dreadful, the organization disgraceful. if the weather had been bad, it would have been an unmitigated disaster.
The Club spirit was brilliant, nobody has our presence and nobody has our style. The crowd at the Bombhole were brilliant.
For John Doris to win the vets over Willie Mulligan and Lamont is a huge victory , and Alfies 3rd in masters stellar..both these categories are intense beyond belief ..
But fair play to everybody who raced whether they got a podium or not.
That was one grim mother****er of a race..the savage climb up from the river was a relief from the poxy knee deep mud !!
jesus wept..you shouldn't have to get off your bike in a race unless you are wrecked..

Really was great to see all the epic jerseys out today the craic at the bomb hole was great we had families moving away wondering who the mad lunatics were. Fair play to everyone for racing that, from my one practice lap it was a serious slog. It was a fun day a the races
That was brilliant craic, really enjoyed it, fair dues to anyone who managed to ride the course without getting swallowed by all the mud. The kids on the last bit were priceless, the abuse they gave people put even Richie to shame. Thanks Sean, Sham, Skippy and Eoinl for coming out to support the Club, it was great. Looking forward to Thursday nights.
To be honest lads there were no loosers out there yesterday even if you dnf, it was a slog...It was great watching you lads in battle and what a battle it was..jezez that was a race for real men no room for slack jaw fools..I have to agree with Richie, Epic mtb really stood out yesterday and we had a rider in every battle going and i was really proud to be apart of the club.
Did not think much of the course or organisation that wnet into it maybe it was a man power problem, keep in mind we are running one shortly and if you dont want a mess like yesterday man up and get involved every little helps.

Team-Worc can run a series of events at an exceptional standard with limited manpower, its about commitment and passion.
Fair play to all the supporters, certainly needed some encouragement coming through the bombhole at the end of the fourth lap. Savage turnout form the Epic crew. I think it was the club turnout that made the day what it was..... Imagine if there was a sh!ite epic turnout, and it was raining. jesus.

Yesterday was a big wake up call for me and how tough XC racing is,it was savge. I havnt been out on the the MTB much this year and really felt it yesterday.
Had a great battle with Luke for a few laps..I thought 5 laps for experts was a little excessive.
No point in complaining about the course, it is what it is, you get the chance to preride and if you dont like it, no-ones forcing you to race.

how are things ever going to improve if you blindly accept whatever is thrown at you?
significant sections of that course yesterday were rubbish, and I would never want to see a beginner put through that again, I have read comments to the effect that first timers yesterday would not race again because they were so put off by their first ever racing experience

Except its not blind acceptance - previous Sorrento races have set the level of expectation for course preparation and everyone had a chance to ride a lap pre-race. After a week of rain and the information that no pre-built trails would be used, the race loop was pretty much as I expected it to be.
If 1st timers are put off so be it - its not a game of golf, its an extreme endurance sport.
i think the main problem yesterday was that people turned up expecting it to be ran on the Daffyd trail and were handed that. I know where you are coming from Mr Dollar but there should have been more effort put in to making it more rideable by everybody.
I was actually surprised it was worse than i imagined , the course as you say was the course..I was asked what i thought of it by the organisers and i told him it was desperate but that it was set and that was it.
But theres no excuse for the lack of organization and the complete lack of interest in using the timing software, despite huge efforts from Fergal to get them to use it. We'll never see the results and we'll never know how close to the feckers in front of us we were.
We had a great time though as a club and thats all good.
