Normally i hate 3 rock but having to go to an early family lunch, my legendary cohorts agreed on a 9.00am start ...great stuff..up 3 rock and across to KDM back up by Rob davies' track and up Kilmashogue and out and across the bottom of fairy castle, up by the fence, 2 rock, fairy castle down to 3 rock, behind the masts ..down fergals Satellite trail, down the nice motocross trail Fergal built...and down his other trail that winds its way down, across his rock and roll trail. down aggro, and back over Bluelight lower to Ticknock and over again to KDM once more, unfortunately i was caught in a queue on Robins new bridge ..then back over to Toms , up the savage climbs past some freaking out horses, and down the boneshaker.Great gang. The Club Champ kept us entertained, Jack ditched his camlback and was the better for it. Nice one, pity about the dumbasses building a jump in the middle of an XC track...fecking eejits,
Richie
have to say really enjoyed that spin. on the go for the full 3 hours only stopping to regroup. and yes ditching the camlback was a revelation, i felt so free!!
yeah baby, its hard to cater spins to suit everybody and not everybody knows what type of spin suits them.
in the olden times of yore, we would meet at the Yellow House and we would cycle up Kilmashogue lane and as soon as the last person arrived , we would take off.
I used to be one of the last people.
It used to be Rory out the front as a skinny 16 year old, then it was Joe mccall, Rory, dave Gill, and niall quinlan, then it was all them boys plus Robin and John pennefether.
And then there was Gerry and Frank and Andrew Douglas and Paddy daly and Gordon byrne and Sean and prior and Craig Brady and dave maher and a Ken Farrar.
esus they were hard times, till i gave up smoking and drinking and the Masters category was created.
But Rory Walsh was the very first MTB legend Ireland.
I don't remember any of those boys being spectacular in the beginning, Robin was excellent on the tricky triallsy stuff.
Joe was deadly at wheelies and I once saw Ken F do a jump over a wooden ramp on Butt Bridge during a MTB Crit in Dublin City center...jaysus that was early 90's
JPP was deadly on the down bits and if memory serves me correctly , the only irish rider ever to win a british DH nps , ever, that was in Ae forest.
What i'm trying to say is, we've gone fierce soft, we used to have to survive spins, to get better, nowadays Sean and me have to select riders for spins.
This might seem un PC , but its a fact of life.
Some of our strongest riders , used to be very slow, very slow, but sean used to make me wait for them, he would berate me on my Teamie Worcieness !! I was a founder member of team-worc , you know.
but now some of those bad boys can kick my arse. Which makes me very proud. And though hes less likely to admit it ( mainly because he still has a few XC wins up his sleeve) so is sean.
inanyways, we got savage by chasing people like Robin and Sean and gerry the knife and Damo and Alfie.
We didnt get better by aiming low.
and none of you should either.
But i don't appreciate people whinging at me because its too hard to keep up. I have never had a spin I didn't have the craic on.
its meant to be hard.
Jack was deadly today, hes not a racer, but he gave a deadly account of himself and fair play to him for turning up. he has had his arse roasted before. But he displayed once again why he was Club member of the year in 2007. if we had more jacks, Tims and roos, we would dominate the world, not to mention another sean,BON, Damo and Alfie..actually everybody I have the pleasure of pedalling with..
I'm like your man off Harry Enfield,
everythings deadly !!
no, but I am entitled to poetic licence occasionally, would I be that lucid if i were drunk..and no spelling mistakes..or grammatic errors..not drunk..
enlightened ..
