What bike rack to buy?

So I’ve never had a bike rack as I never really needed one as I usually had a car with fold down rear seats and just put the bike in the back. I’ve a saloon car now and can’t do that so need to buy one, it’ll also be handy for bringing the kids bikes out and about. What kind of bike racks do people use and are there any recommendations for something good that one break the back

If it's for the ebike then you really have to try and see what works best for you. My experience is that the ones you hang your bike off aren't any use with modern frames. (As opposed to the racks that you rest the wheels onto.)

I could never get the santacruz or the Specialized on without a struggle.
And they like to chew into your fancy frame as u drive.
And I almost lost one once as they catch a lot of wind.
I have several of them and all tow bar mounted that you can try anytime.

The ones with the straps totally do my head in. Usually u damage the car fitting them and they require patience. Something I've not got.

I would defo go with a tow bar mounted one, and one you can sit the wheels on. We have a Thule one, and you can tilt it to get into the boot

Thanks folks, I’ve no towbar and won’t be keeping my car long enough to warrant getting one

I've had one that you hook onto the boot and it warped the metal

Gareth,I know youre very fussy about your car.Any of the racks that attach to the back off the car with straps mark the paint.Not just were the end of the straps catch the boot edge,but even under the foam where it touchs the boot and rear bumper scuffs the laquer.Avoid!!

Only one thing for it. Sell the saloon car and buy another hot hatch
