Well there was a lot of big talk in the Pub of Roo DeVoys shameless mugging of IMBRC member Mr Gareth Maguire and stealing his bike when he had punctured on one of his laps.
When quizzed afterwards about the assault a shocked and delicate Mr maguire told us, " One minute I was standing there admiring the view over Dublin bay , the next there was this wild eyed skelton man dragging my bike out of my hands , screaming gimmegimeeegimmeeebike!!!!, i had no choice but to give it to the deranged person "
So the members asked for a Poll !!
if it was an NPS - the wildly-animated skiligan would be disqualified -
I say lock him up in the Leadmines tower for the duration of the next race, and put an iron mask on him while he's up there,
and make sure there's no hot blonde chick called Rapunzel hanging around the upper windows......he'd only be pulling out of her
It has to be asked, what was Gar doing standing around with a fully functioning bike? Had I seen him I would have swapped my gate for it. I'd say halve Roos points, strip Gars points from last week, then make with the whole flogging and tarring thing of the both of them, finally give some extra points to Shona who got a genuine puncture and didn't try to rob anyones bike.
bollix..if you don't fix a puncture in a race you deserve to be mocked !! the league is about points and to learn about racing and get better on the bike and handle everything mountainbiking throws at you.
Take points off Jack while we're at it for being such a bloody eejit for fixing Shonas puncture for her too !!
damn it..
Some of you are probably still scarred from the beatings you used to get for not being able to fix a puncture or repair a chain..
this Club is going soft !!
I spoke to mr deVoy this morning and hes unrepentant..he says and i quote
" I'm a big tough guy from Crumlin, I know the Viper, I can do whatever i want and if you losers don't like it then thats tough..i saw Maguires weakness, knew there would be no consequences and took advantage of a lesser mortal !! ...i'm not even a bit afraid of Alfie !!"
I witnessed the shameless act, which almost distracted the entire time-keeping crew from their work.
Hereâs what went down. Roo comes charging up the hill screaming for a pump, then a wheel before stealing Garâs fully functioning, perfectly set up bike.
He was a crazy man. Luke tried to scare him away with the rule book while Richard L threw him a live chicken to keep him at bay. He savaged the chicken and the rule book before telling Gar that he would be back in 11.43 seconds and that he better have the punctured fixed.
Darragh and myself revived Richard L. It was touch and go. His breathing really couldnât have been any better had he been riding the race.
David Lawless arrived with a mechanical to a scene of utter carnage and in the ensuing confusion was offered Roosâ bike. The time-keepers shuddered as the bike-swapping epidemic threatened to ravage its way though Epic.
The much needed and tattered rule book rustled with the sound of Rooâs return.
Richard L threw him a live squirrel. Roo was heard muttering something to Gar about how he couldnât have picked a better bike from the 37 that were on the course and that Gar was the fastest man in Ireland to repair a puncture. Gar said something about conspiracy theories â but no one can be really sure if thatâs what they heard.
Gerry had the presence of mind to chase Roo away with a crazy dance and he took off into the woods on his freshly repaired and polished bike. Darragh and myself revived Richard L for the second time.
Roo returned screaming that no bike in Epic was safe, especially Silviaâs and Shonaâs new bikes, that he was going to overthrow Richie and write a new rulebook, that his bike change was the fastest in Epic history, and that his ability to adapt to a different bike with really bad PSI was the new religion and that all such acts of brilliance should merit 1,000 points. Thatâs when I blacked out.
All things said, I think we should give the points. You canât buy determination and entertainment like that. Hereâs a man who would have ridden the course on a unicycle last night.
LOL LO bloody L!!!! I forgot we nearly gave away Roo's bike to Dave Lawless he had the bike in his hands and was turning it around to head off to finish his race when we all s******ed like school kids and he knew something was up and just left it, Classic, Poor old RichardL didn't know what was going on as his head was still hurting trying to figure out how we syncronized the watch and computer!!! Much better craic than Racing.
