Club First Aiders Rec 2 and 3

Hello..
Who did the last REC course and who has REC qualifications ?
I realise we have at least oneWorking Paramedic but has anybody else got REC training ?
From Monday all Club spins will have to have at least one REC trained person with the proper equipment on a spin, and preferably the Spin leader will be the one with the training.
This is for the benefit of the members , its a dangerous sport and I'd prefer to see people safe and secure when they are out there enjoying themselves.
I know Sean has it
Don
Cathal
Who else
Cheers Richie
right , that was hard work but very worthwhile, i think everybody learned a huge amount about emergency care.
The following people are now REC3 trained
Richie Byrne
Alfie Wallace
Damian Mulchrone
Luke Smaul
Brian Hutchinson
Gary Williams
John Harrington
Niall Egan
Stewart Carr
Gar Maguire
Cornelius Duffy
John O'Reilly will get another chance for assessment when we do our spin with the Instructor in the next week or so.
So we now have a serious spread of REC 3 people that can cover all spins.
Well done folks..
It was a very tough course and John Nally was an absolutely brilliant instructor.
I certainly didn't feel like i was on a regular first aid course, it was more like being out there actually rescuing injured riders and securing them.
a big thanks to John and Dave Carroll for the instruction..
there knowledge of incidents and experience is incredible.
In the New Year we will be running a course for prospective spin leaders which will mainly cover some of the stuff we learned today and from both the Coaching and the Leader courses we've done.
At the end of the day folks everybody in the club benefits from us doing these courses and passing on the lessons we've learned
This is the first time a group of Mountainbikers have done a course tailored to their specific needs and scenarios.
Richie
I know John and Dave. You went to the right people there for sure. Both top of their game, comes from experience and not just a textbook.
I need a refesher as it's been years since I did this. If this is happening again can you stick me on the list
no problem..we will be offering it in the New Year for people who want to do it and we'll subsidise any members interested.
even though it was a very serious course..i'm sorry i didn't video Alfie ( Patient/Victim) and Damo (Rescuer)..it was the funniest thing i've seen in years!
as for Alfie in the emergency shelter ( a big orange Nylon Bag) tending to Cornelius,
" I vant to suck your blood!"
That's Gary Williams just for the record :)
Ah man Alfie and Damo were so feckin funny, i had a head ache laughing
there you go..i just couldn't remember..its going to be funny on spins now if somebody has an accident and we pull out the Sanitary towels and the Clingfilm!
and the foil plates !
Richie - would there be any chance of persuading the lads to run it as a "night" course over a longer period of time - for a lot of people taking a full weekend off can be difficult with work/family commitments?
I feel sorry for the poor fecker that gets hurt when we're all there, they'll end up looking like a the tin man from the wizard of OZ (or a walking Advert for Always Ultra).
RL, I think the main problem would be doing the scenarios in the dark. The fact that we were doing real life settings highlighted the problems associated... wet ground, slippery conditions, mud, uneven ground, phone coverage, cold etc.
However, It might be possible to do it over 2 evenings & one day...
I'm sure Richie can ask the question.
i'll talk to them and see what the story is but they work themselves you see at real jobs! you need the whole days too, though, I think to do all the scenarios and stuff. we were there till 11.o clock on friday night ! that was from 6.00 without a break !
Fair points Stu/Richie - just have to get organised properly for the next one! Love to do it - sounds great!
i knew you would..I think we were lucky with the people I organised for the course..
I was an accident victim yesterday and all i can say is that i'm impressed with the attention several members of the Club were paying to getting my core temp from my nethers!
and if Alfie comes at you smelling of Dettol ..run away !
He said the groin was a good place to get temp from.
mind you, maybe he was a fake. after all, he laughed at our firstaid kits, and told us to replace them with tin plates, cling film & sanitary towels.
