It seems that members while out on the hills have ignored other mountainbikers having difficulty and laughed at others who aren't quite as good as themselves.
They were wearing club jerseys on one occasion and on another the person who complained to me knew who they were. Having been on a couple of spins earlier in the year, one incident happened in Djouce and another in Ballinastoe.
Now I'm as big a slagger as the next person, but portaying EPIC as some kind of ignorant superior club is not acceptable.
I have had other complaints about ignorant riders from EPIC pushing past obvious beginners in Ballinastoe and other places .
I see enough crap fired at me constantly from other people without having to watch out for arseholes who are wearing the club jerseys and thinking they are some kind of super biker.
if you can't be civil on the mountains to other riders then find somewhere else to be ****heads,

That's disappointing, I guess that when you have a club that is this big, a few will always let the side down. I view wearing the EPIC jersey as a privilege, not a right, and when I wear it I act accordingly. If you can't respect other bikers, or the reputation of your club, take it off, or better yet, as Riche says, find another club.
Nothing irritates me more than saying hello to a rider on the trails and being ignored..not just because all mountain bikers should bow down before me but because its just rude..
And that happens more than you think..and its always people on fancy bikes..

Ah the bike snobs, they are the easiest to ignore as they obviously are clueless. Anyone who has been biking for any length of time has been humbled by some wizard on an old crock, it's rarely about the bike, it's always the rider. In fact is there anything better than doing things you really shouldn't be able to do on an old junker?
oh yeah....myself ,Sean, Bruce and sean Travers had many an escapade on a pile of crap..you can't beat it..when you don't care if you break it up, you have much more craic..
I think if someone pulls in to let you pass you should say, thanks. On one of the climbs I heard a guy come up behind me pretty quick so I stopped and let him through he didnt even say thanks, if I was fitter I would of caught up with him and kicked him off... well maybe not, but that's how I felt a bit of courtesy goes a long way......
as for people with expensive bikes they usually know how ****/good they are and maybe they are shy or ashamed to say hello...
At the end of the day lads..we're all in it together..mountainbikes are great fun, you can do great things on them and meet great people..
If memory serves me correctly, thats how we snared Don and Clive..2 guys we just met in Djouce..
I find that very hard to believe...Any Epic member or any other MTBER to be honest that I have came across are more than willing to help or move aside for faster riders...Now I have came across riders in Daffys who just don't move but its not out of bad manners..its they are new to the sport and are not familiar with what to do when someone is behind them...They normally speed up abit.. then fall over within a few minutes.
I always stay well back until I hit a fire road or somewhere safe to pass...We where all in that situation at some stage...best just to encourage them its no fun breaking there spirit.
If these fellaz think they are that good bring them on a hardcore training spin and see how they like being the butt of the joke...flicking gobsheens.
in fairness to the guy who rang me, I know him and he wasn't overly happy telling me. he was concious of the ****e being fired at me over on mtbireland and thought I'd like a heads up on a couple of plonkers in the club making the club look bad, knowing i'd be the one getting the abuse if people saw them,

Lets not become like the faceless roadies who never say hello or give mountainbikers the nod.But if your tanned and riding latest carbon gismo they crawl all over you.I have been passed on the road while on my mtb and wearing baggies by roadies i know well and ignored by them its sad.Its important to be polite and give fellow riders a nod who knows when you will need their help with a tube or mechanical.Ballinagoober has become an attraction for some top riders timing themselves for lap.Its probably these elite gods who are shouting people out of the way so they wont loose a second very sad affair.
no its actually not the elite Gods..the descriptions don't match..besides..I've yet to meet one that has no manners...
I'll be having a chat with a couple of people in the near future..lets just remember that when we are out there, be nice ,say hello..if you are stuck behind a slower rider, stop, take in the views, have a winegum then pass when you can. Personally i've found that if you catch up to people on the Ballinastoe trail and say hello , they always let you pass..
huffing and puffing behind them muttering " jesus" is just nasty.
The same goes in the club races..if you catch a slower rider, say rider up and pass when you get a chance.
Vice versa, if you are caught..then you are caught...move out of the way..its not a signal to speed up and thrash around all over the trail being a nuisance.
Manners people and a little bit of respect...

As Ronan says we have a very small community but its getting bigger..
I find it strange that people find this hard to believe. The Epic pack is an intimidating unit when moving onforce, not through any arrogance but quite likely through the confidence that the riders have while riding together. This confidence can quite easily be mistaken for arrogance.
My own girlfriend has complained to me about being steamrolled off the track in Daffys by a group of about ten Epic heads. Only one member bothered to thank her once she found a comfortable spot to stop. Believe it or not that member was Richie Byrne ???
One of the riders on last nights spin up in djouce made a point that Daffys is not for the like of us. I disagree, but it should be without question in my opinion given priority to beginners and improvers and when those of us who are at this a while meet them on the track we give them the required space or notice not to intimidate them off the trails.
I think we could all take a lesson out of MADs book, It seems that they must have some sort of manners innitiation class. I have always thought that they go out of their way to be unnecessarily polite and friendly while about on the trails.
