Guys I have a massive pain in my arse with this!
Every week we're having a string of DNFs because people are calling the wrong number, not calling their number loud enough or completely forgetting their number! I then have to spend ages sifting through the results which I then forward to BON and Fergal who have to make the changes in the computer results ..... we don't need this hassle!! It is the responsibility of each rider to make sure that the timers get your number accurately on each lap ...... not the other way around! I don't care how ****ed you are, you need to speak clearly and be sure that the timers heard you!

i think everyone should have to time so that you realise how difficult timing is, especially when you have a train of riders coming at you and whispering their number.
It works but it really needs sorting out...I cant believe the mess lastnite... I think you really need one or two more people to help at the finish. The robot should be a little further down the lane where its quite with operator and one other, the manual place taker should be up at the normal spot making sure we get it right with another person.
Or you could have cones to narrow the finish up so only one rider gets through at a time once they finish there race.
If you dont shout your number good and clear dont expect anyone to pick it up, there are people coming in so fast...once your in we are taking the next numbers so no point coming over after the fact expecting much help.
Think its just pressure of number TBH, I had my number called back to me by the timer on each lap and I still DNF'd on the 3rd because of the number of riders coming in at the same time. Its a detail though, its all about the racing.

I'm not in a position to be making suggestions but that sounds like a very good idea; theres about 15-20 lads per minute crossing the line on the last lap; with the noise and chat from the lads already finished
or do the opposite and keep the finish line and robot as it is, and have a marker 20 yards further on where lads can pull up when finished and not any closer
i was watching the finish line system last night and it definitely breaks down when a bunch come in together. riders shouting numbers and the timekeeper repeating their number ends up with a jumble of numbers being shouted about when more than two riders come in together. its easy to lose the sequence or one of the numbers. numbers on hadlebars instead of riders shouting would be the way to go. imra use two people writing numbers in case one person misses a number. but that would mean an extra volunteer

Two riders finishing very close together, the one behind calls his number first to gain a place on the laptop (shame!!) - often though the rider in front is calling his number at the same time so neither are heard clearly !

Oh there's all sorts of sneakiness going on, I used to shout my number from the bottom of the hill, even had a loudhailer mounted on the bars, the timers never fell for it though.
Ado99 i can asure you the time keepers are sharper than that...You can shout all you like and from as far as you like away...but if you cross the line first you get the correct result.
