For those of you new to racing , pay attention.
A lot of you in this club are better than you deserve to be, you're deadly by association. This is a huge responsibility , you may not have asked for it but when you signed your Membership form for EPIC,you gave up any right to be dismal and mediochre.
You might be thinking ah, i'll coast along tomorrow at the back of Vets or the rear of S4, I'm afraid thats not good enough.
I expect everybody who races to come home with a medal, if you have to crash into rival Club members and put them out of the race by all means do it, they are all hoping you'll have an aneurism or break your bicycle. Sure they'll be wishing you luck beforehand but once you are jockeying together for that bit of singletrack they are hoping you will fall off and disappear down a rabbit hole for the duration of the race.
now theres been a few mutterings about the Bangers sliding down from S1 to Masters..this is a very sad occasion for the sport but they are not in EPIC so they are automatically of no interest to us, bless 'em.
So tomorrow in all seriousness.
Those of you in S4 will see carnage at the start line.
Especially the ladies.
The fast S3s will be gone in no time but the slow s3s will hold the fast S4s up.
The slower s4s will hold the ladies up. This is normal as you are started after them.
Be patient take it easy and pick them off gently and calmly.
Do not make the mistake of barging in to the back of them screaming at them.
The first 15 minutes in a 2 lap race is crucial.
Do a practice lap look for the overtaking lines in the first 1 to 2k of the race.
when it starts to thin out, which it will, rev up them legs and away you go, remember where you can get a rest, or at least an opportunity to get your HR down.
Get the drinks in on the grassy open bits coming to the finish.
Don't be afraid and don't DNF..
All EPIC members should congregate around the EPIC/Eurocycles Tent.
don't DNF,
tape a powerlink to one of your outer cables.
get a gel inside you 15 minutes before the race starts.
Don't fret about tyres in the morning.
Don't imagine you can get away with under 30PSI !! leave that to the PROS !!
Remember too that you are representing the greatest Club since the Romans !!
