Well that was deadly, i started off at 5.30 with Carol and Dave for an old brisk spin around Djouce, down benchcut, son of benchcut across the river around Powerscourt then up the Earls Drive ( doing all the steep alternatives) around the lakes and up to the wide trail then down the roooty singletrack and down the long rooty fast stretch and on to the fireroad up to Benchcut..then Dave tore his hanger off and Carol and myself did Bemchcut again and sprinted up the fireroad to the car park..
Then at 7.00, me, Alfie,Als,Alan,Fergal,Roo,Luke,Johnco, hit the pain trail, benchcut, son of benchcut, across the river, up through the Gorse Alley over to Crone, up Lukes Stepladder and on and on up the twisty trail to Svalbard..down Svalbard past the Kingdom of the IceBears ..holy Jeebus it was mental..John has the worst lights in Christendom..then up Ride rock down to the river Valley , up the river valley..
Down the best descent where I nearly did a flyer off the cliff ! The knock had me and after I followed Luke and got knocked off my bike by an angry squirrell..I had a hilarious descent after the lads..every time I thought I had them..a tree would swerve in front of me and knock me off..
Then down the stupidest trail in the world ( thanks Alfie) and back to the cars..
I don't think we'll be getting into the XC hall of fame for these spins as some of the descents were beyond normal for Freeride bikes..at one stage I saw The Commissions XC coordinator marking us into the Black Book Of Things Not to Do on a Carbon XC bike..
I heard a wallop at one stage and John O Reilly was on his back sliding towards the river still pedalling his bike !!
Well done guys , if you have any level of fitness and you are missing these spins, you are mental..between the Tuesday night spins with Al and ours on a Thursday, I can safely say this has been the best Night Riding season ever !!
coming up from the river is the hardest part of it..next Thursday, provided its dryish..I will bring you on the Loop of Agony and Terror oh yeah, bring a fookin huge set of testicilees !!!

Your ragged riding styles and laissez-faire attitudes brings shame to the sport:
Disorganised, dangerous, mal-coordination, lads stopping at the lip of drops and guffaw-ing, lads pushing other lads off bikes, wrestle-mania style body slams, reckless self-endangerment on poorly cambered trails, no mobile defribrillator....I could go on....
You broke nearly every rule in my MTB Commission handbook.
A letter of complaint is being currently being drafted for the attention of your club president and chairman, I pretty sure whoever they are, they would not condone this type of "savagery" as that was exactly what it was - primal beasts let loose in the wild....
Fair play lads, I went around roughly the same spin about an hour ahead of yiz, had one of those nights where I couldn't go uphill or downhill, I just wanted to be beamed home...
Climbing up the top of Crone in the snow was great.
Can't hack the twilight though, don't know what's going on... lights....no lights....can't see....can see.....I need dark, or light......

That was the best night ride ever!! your all crazy! I loved it, Not knowing where i,m going, not knowing where I am, in the darkness with my lame light, felt like i was in candle light. Al had me cracked up, telling me, we'er on a new trail in 3 rock! Some great action.
Feck me, the posting is nearly as energetic as the spin.
A long time since I had to resort to a power gel to get through a spin. What a spin though, little or no let up in the pace, snow, Roo taking Luke's place as the one to crash going up the Climb from Hell, Richie trying to go paragliding on a bike, my wet foot moment (deserved), getting pushed off a bike (deserved), carnage as usual on the descent to the river, the muddiest trail in the world and the Best Descent in the World, living up to its name.
Will the name Randolph Ridestraight be appearing in results this year?
Thanks everyone, sorry for being a bit off the pace (on the climbs anyway ;-)), will just have to get better.
Oh yeah the cold and the mud and the darkness O the darkness!
Well I guess I was being a bit too thrifty when I bought those 1980's lights.

Good old climb up from crone in the snow. Everyone so fast! Lash down the new walking track. Mental descent down to the river.
Delicious fig roll (thanks Richie). Someone is going to fall off that cliff.
And that upside-down pedalling isn't as easy as it looks! Years of practice and several bangs on the head makes it look so smooth. Dont try it at home folks :) Super spin thanks lads :)
