Only meself, Richard, Oscar, Erica and Ruth today so a small enough group for a Saturday spin. Yez missed out lads!
It was overcast and misty when we left Trooperstown. We headed down through Laragh and up the road and taking in parts of the St. Kevins Way to the lower lake of the Turlough Hill power station. We were stalked by a parcel of deer. (That’s the right word for a group of deer; I looked it up).
Then on the road to the upper manmade lake where we came across a tiny baby lamb that was so young it could barely walk. The mammy sheep didn’t like the look of Oscar and was freaking out trying to get the baby to move away. And on to the summit of Camaderry where the sun came out and we had a bit of a break. It was downhill from there. Over the Rock of Death and then down the fantastic grassy descent to Glendalough. Richard and Ruth headed back to the cars so meself Oscar and Erica went over towards Derrybawn Mountain and tried to go down the trails on the far side. They were blocked by trees so that was disappointing. We got down them anyway after a bit of jiggery-pokery.
That’s the way to do it; big mountains and back with clean bikes, although Erica’s shoes got a bit dirty.
Thanks Colm, a great big mountain spin,haven't done one in a while. That descent was mega...And I even enjoyed the climbs! Had to take a couple of runs into the rock of death, off the brakes and zoooooom,deadly. Can't believe my super white new shoes got dirty, ah nothing a baby wipe won't fix! Oh and we went for burgers and chips in sugar mountain cafe in roundwood, yummy,washed down with a 99, proper holidays :)
Deadly stuff! Ye, the OPW took a not so green approach on Derry Bawn to get rid of the trail, must be 20 large tree cutting down to block it. Imagine people on bikes enjoying themselves up there, had to be done!
