Think you mean the dream mile, the green mile is on tibraden.
Interesting, I've always called it the Green Mile. Just shows what an earfull of rain and mud will do for your hearing. Lackandarragh on the map but that's no help.
Thats me out then, mine still isn't here yet.
If Garys' licence is 'in the post' is he OK for spins?
What a spin last night! Unreal, if there are people reading this who haven't done the curtlestown up to Prince willy's & down the other side spin, and across the green mile / dream mile then you haven't lived. No really, you haven't.
Thanks again to Cathal for taking us all out, I think everyone was on such a happy buzz after the spin, all we were short of was a happy meal & a strawberry milkshake & maybe a PG-film about puppies.
On this spin the bike passes over so many surfaces - you wont know which way is up, especially if like me & Gary you enjoy lying on your back after doing some 'air-time' over the bars. Then you'll have a rough idea of just how rocky parts of this are!
There are rocks, boulders, mud, grass, trees, schlomp to the power of infinity, at one point my brain was doing a dance because the roots were the grippy part??? what's that about??? Some parts are like the moon (haven't been there so that's a guess) some like a big melty-marshmallowly-soggy-creamy-sinky-bouncy-deppy-boggy-etc.
I watched Shona do a section sideways down a hil, it was cool - drift-mania - like them lads of the DVDs! There's even a hefty climb on the road at the end of the spin just to get in to the 'Tour' mentality. . . mental indeed.
we even did the Cloon downhill track- it's great - the jumps are quite considerable on it - so I considered each & then went 'round. (Yang gland removed at birth? hope not, I know it grows well into 'adult hood')
Apparently the pace was brisk, which was good considering the weather (cold only rain at the end) & the schlomp. It's good to know that I'm getting all my winter riding practice in early. I think everyone in the club is with the summer we're having.
Forgive the cruddy spelling all - it's early & I'm still in the clouds after a deadly spin.
Yeah that was a wicked spin, over the bars again twice(thanks shona for laughing lol) some wicked decents if i could have stayed on 2 wheels long enough and a good lung buster at the end, roll on next week yahooooo. Cheers Cathal.
A small but hardy crew set off for a great evenings biking.
Shona set a savage pace up the fireroad, showing off on her fancy new bike. The technical climbs over the schlomp and rocks were great. Plenty to distract from the pain in your legs and chest. Out of sheer cruelty I told everyone that the last climb was over only to reveal that last beast up to the top of the forest.
Then the real fun started. First a bit of a warm up down through the bottomless puddles. Then into the trees for the rocky section that always astounds with just how rocky it is. Speed is the key, but get it wrong.. I was worried Colm would damage the Slayer he was so fast but he handled it perfect.
Whizzing along the quick singletrack down to the fireroad this Fawn leaps out of the ferns and ran alongside me for about 20 feet before darting off again.
The downhill track was savagely rooty slippy and rocky. Gary chalked up a couple more over the handlebar tricks here. He's very good at them.
After bullying John into keeping going despte crippling back pain we shot off across Knockree and into the wicklow way trails down to the river. So smooth, so flowy. Must be one of the best descents around.
A bit of drifting practice along the river and it was into the hard grassy climb up to the road. A quick regroup at the gate and then a good solid slog back up the road to the car park.
Two hours total, great going lads, thanks for coming out.
