Howdy, I am coming out of spin running retirement to drag all your sorry asses around some of the finer trails in Wicklow. Be at the GlenCormack Inn Car Park for 10:00 this Sunday. For those not familiar with the spot itâs the pub in Kilmacanogue at the bottom of the long hill.
This will be a good old fashioned Sunday spin. I canât tell you where it will go because I havenât really decided yet and anyway even if I had your brains would explode from the deadlyness of it.
Since Iâve spend the last while racing me DH bike and going on diplomatic missions to far flung exotic locations, like Carlow, chances are I donât know what most of you are like on the bike. So Iâll explain the crack. Anyone who is even half way competent on a bike and has some degree of fitness is more than welcome. What ever the spin is there will be loads of opt out points so if you arse is too large, not to worry, there will be an escape route. The pace will be mine, that is slow and steady on the climbs (racing up hills is not tolerated) and as fast as humanly possible on the descents.
You will need a bike that you can pedal up hills (no DH bikes). You also have to be self sufficient, be able to fix a puncture, fix a chain, fend off wolves etc. Bring plenty of food and a rain Jacket.
It also occurred to me that most of you probably donât know how good I am at this spin running lark. Iâm deadly at it, its going to be great crack, if you are not off the old school variety then you will see trails you probably havenât seen before and styles of riding that give irresponsible a whole new meaning.
If the weather is nice we will do loads, until we fall over and canât have anymore crack. If the weather is ****e we will have mucky fun somewhere sheltered. If you want to practice for the Blast, donât go near Balinastoe, the Blast wasnât invented there it was invented on these spins, they are the best preparation ever.
If you feel the need to ask questions fire away, if they are personal questions my number is 0879854445.
And there was me looking for a spin, I'll be there Mr Fairy. We can all raid Avoca afterwards, wide eyed, stinking, covered in blood, mud, gorse and sweat, the blue rinse, SUV loving brigade will choke on their scones!
Here scone choakage is no laughing matter, sones are the 11th most common cause of choaking in the over 45âs, Worthers Original flavoured jonnys just knocks it off the top ten.
In case your wondering the black tyres with the with slightly squared edges and octagonal knobs are the tyre of choice for the spin. Those old yellow ones with the triangular knobs are also ok. Have them somewhere between 7 and 49 psi.
Gerry can come on the spin if he wants, but if he does the cranky old man thing or pulls one random wheely Iâll have to remind him what we used to do to deadly people in the good old days (it involves a river, and a ferret, well maybe not a ferret, but Iâm pretty sure something furry was involved). If we all bring one spare part we can build a new bike for Cathal in the car park before hand.
You can shave your legs if you want, but if you do your fair game. Bring whatever lights you want, hollow cranks will be good for the floaty bits, and make sure you have greased your nipples.
If sweeneys car park is closed we can park at area to the left of flyover bridge.Take slip road left after garage and park to the left of small roundabout.
