All Mountain Spin, 7:20pm, 05th July, Laragh

Right, we're off to do the daddy of Glendo spins.

It's an animal, so turn up physically, mechanically and psychologically prepared.

Anyone who was out last week will be well able for it.

Pedalling at 7:20 prompt.

Sounds grreat, but unfortunally still on my **** bike as I havent managed to get my hands on a new one yet:mad:

This is on tonight. Tuesday the 6th.

The first hour of climbing nearly did me but that was deadly. Hope your shoulder is not too messed up Gar.

The Miners, always a savage.

A nice hard pace had us at the top in just over an hour. That bit of singletrack climb was murder with fallen trees. Things got a bit freaky up the cloud with spooky goats and deers eyeing us up and a commando squad looming out of the gloom.

Gar had an unmerciful smack coming down the first descent. Andy's knee was giving him a lot of trouble. So they bailed out down the boardwalks. Pity lads, we'll do it again sometime.

I was behind Mo for a lot of the first descent, very smooth, nice line choice.

Derek was not happy on the boardwalks, they take a bit of getting used to all right.

We dropped below the cloud coming down the rock stairs and the view was just amazing. I love that section. Get it right and you flow along, get it wrong and you get hammered.

Over the bridge and into the rock maze. There wasn’t much time for working on the various tricky bits so we just clattered through it as best we could. Apparently Colm kept sending Bren wrong.

Then into the switchbacks for a battering. That section has gotten tougher over the years no doubt about it. Still deadly though.

Derek gave us a deadly free climbing exhibition over the last few boulders. I just totally ran out of steam around here. Just as well it was all over, I’d nothing left. Sign of a good hard spin.

Ha ha Colm was grand and I apologise for whatever name I called him this time. I was so shattered his back tyre was the blue light and I was the fiy. I was following it Badly :)

That was a tough but rewarding spin. I’m tried, hungry and dehydrated this morning. How many beers did we have?

That commando squad emerging from the murk was very strange; they had disrupted pattern battle fatigues and full cammo cream on, lucky they were wearing hi-viz vests or we would never have seen them.

Moe marked the route we took so he could find his way the next time.

Sounds deadly, but what are a commando squad in battle fatigues and full cammo cream doing wearing high viz vests???!!!! This political correctness makes me wanna puke, I bet they had ear defenders on, blank bullets and a cork stuck on their knife tip. I miss they days when the army just went around kicking the **** out of stuff, pillaging and looting and raping farm animals, or did I just imagine that?

That’s the weird thing; it wasn’t the army. It was a group of young people doing a Gaisce Presidents Award. I reckon they were only training to pillage and loot and rape farm animals.

Thanks Cathal, another great spin. The cross wind and mist on the boardwalks was a nightmare (that's my excuss anyway). Always good to mix the free climbing in with the mountain biking. Looking forward to next week.

Derek those boarwalks just take a bit of getting used to. Speed helps.

On a similar note; that section from the bridge to the top of the switchbacks is ruined.

Some ejit has built a cobbled/gravel path over the good bits and left the unrideable stuff. So there's no flow at all. It just eats time.

Next time I'm going to go down the far side of the river and cross over at the waterfall. See how that works.

You've just spent too much time around Richie Byrne, he remembers the good old days.

I gotta take the positives out of last night. Great hour long climb was great for the legs. Two min descent was not quiet what I had in mind as a reward though.:mad:
I got out of St Vincents A&E just after 5am but no fractures so I will be brand new in a week or so.
I had two flights to make today and couldnt carry a case or my daughter which went down really well with my wife!
Anyway thanks to Andy for coming down with me and keeping me company and to Cathal for the call after to make sure I was ok.
Moral of the story, be better and crash less.
