All Mountain Spin, 7:20pm, Tuesday 27th July, Curtlestown

We're off to do the Curtlestown, Cloon and Knockree loop.

Anyone who's done this will tell you it's a classic.

It starts with a hard climb so bring a bike you can pedal.

Meeting here, it's the car park 'before' Cloon. Pedalling at 7:20 prompt.

I'm not sure who, if anyone, is around. So post up if you're coming.

Cheers for the spin Cathal, was great to be back out on the bike again, my knee was able to handle everything, which was more than I expected.

I'm going to blame seized bearings for getting dropped on the way back, turned out the bearings had popped out of the track and the wheel was running without them. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

That was a perfect evening for a spin; lovely and dry, not too humid, and a slight breeze to keep you cool.

It’s a bit of a climb with some ‘hike a bike’ up along the Wicklow Way towards Ravens Rock but it’s worth it for the decent from the top of Cloon Wood all the way down to the Glencree River.

We stopped just after the rocky bit to gather ourselves and we moved the bikes out of the way to let a walker pass. But he wasn’t your average walker; he was wearing a drenched shirt, white trousers, slip-on shoes and was smoking a cigarette. I was so stunned I only thought to take a photo after he had passed us.

Down past the old DH Track and onto the road, we said “Hello!” to Greg Doyle, but he ran away.

The view from the last grassy bit towards the river was beautiful with the setting sun catching the top of the trees. The photo doesn’t do it justice.
