For Sale is my Genesis IO steel hardtail fitted with an 8 speed Alfine rear hub
Spec:
2007 Genesis IO Reynolds 520 Steel Frame, 19â
Shimano 8 speed hub fitted with 20t sprocket (also have 18t)
ISIS type bottom bracket (1 yr old) with FSA cranks and 32t chainring
Rockshox Recon single air 100mm fork (bombproof)
INOX s/s single speed chain (1 Yr old)
FSA Orbit XLII headset
Hayes 9 brakes
Rear wheel â Mavic 819 UST rim on Alfine 8 spd hub, Maxxis High Roller UST tyre, 180mm rotor
Front wheel â DT Swiss 340 on Specialized Stout hub, Nobby Nic tyre, 180mm rotor
Bike is in good condition and perfect working order. As you would expect from a steel frame of this age there are a few spots of cable rub and a little rust here and there, but no structural issues.
I have used this bike as a spare mtb over the last year. The Alfine setup is amazing â literally maintenance free. With the 32-20 set up on this bike you have a range of gears which approximates to about 3rd easiest in granny to hardest in middle on a regular derailleur setup. Shifting is smooth and silent and the ability to change gears without pedalling is really handy. This hub just works, full stop. I rode it through the winter last year and whilst my mates were fettling with their derailleurs there was I flying along, trouble free in glorious silence (it's really quiet). The bike rides well, it's a little heavier in the back than a regular set up but I never found it an issue. The steel frame is lovely to ride.
If you are after a virtually maintenance free bike, then this is for you. This is a great winter mtb. Would also make a great commuter with a smaller sprocket on the back.
These bikes retail new for over â¬1,000. Here's an opportunity to try the Alfine setup for cheap. I'm also throwing in a single speed wheel (18t) in case you are crazy enough to try that (it's a single speed frame) and a pair od spd's
