would second that if your not handy with the tool box then id avoid formula. Performance wise there probably the best but they take a little bit looking after.

i know nothing about these but have been told to go formula. i expect hydraulics to be tricky whatever the brand- is there much difference between shimano & formula mechanically?
get a set of Shimano brakes..Formula are very fiddily and only a pro like Al would see the difference performance wise anyway..
The thing to look for in Hydraulic disc brakes is ease of bleeding , availability of pads, they all do the same job, they all act like anchors ! I prefer shimano over them all because they never give me a problem and i ride my bike more than most !
You can get Shimano brakes that just use 'standard' 6 bolt rotors ranter than the centre lock rotors. Just get what ever suits your current hubs.
I'm an Avid man myself but you don't want them.
You should be able to get a set of Shimano SLX brakes for about €200 ish plus extra for rotors.
As you said you're not too up on the whole mechanics of them I would say call into a shop like Expert Cycles and get Alfie to sell you and install them for ya.

TBH I have no idea whether â¬100 (all in) for basic avids is better than â¬164 for Shimano SLXs (all in) or even those distractingly sexy formulas for â¬149 (also all in) - but I've been told that the sexy little Italian number is the way to go - hence this post.
But most of all what really confuses me is "would you not just use avid cable discs .......... as most people have read they are crap" surely this is asked & answered?
There is one rule when buying new stuff... you buy cheap, you end up buying twice.
If you want something sexy buy Hopes, as tough as Shimano but have the bling factor.

I can source new versions of both for considerably less than â¬200. Now removing mechanical ability as a issue, are these cheap (and therefore potentially trouble) or do they represent value?
