I know I'm leaving myself open to heaps of abuse but here goes:
A while back I got a great deal on an 08 Stumpjumper frame from the UK and I'm going to get it built in the New Year. I'm hoping to end up with a bike that's light but a bit softer and more forgiving than the Epic. I'm currently thinking DT Swiss Wheels (EX1750), Rock Shox Reba Team forks, XT for drivetrain and maybe for brakes as well.
Any (helpful!) advice would be appreciated
exactly !! RickyL is a couple of seasons away from the terror that is Cyclocross..so a season on the DH bike would do him good..freeing up Damo to get a CX bike to wipe the floor with you pair of ladygays !!
I can hardly get the "weight weeney" Epic uphill without having a heart attack - how the f..k would I manage with a DH bike? Anyway I have an Enduro SX which I might convert to a mini-DH if I can't sell it!

oh yeah, that other old fart peter Buggle is selling loads of bling bits..get him in a headlock up in the Blue light and get him to sell it to you cheap..go on , I dare ya !!
Oh don't worry Buggle's already tried that - hardly ever used - yeah right!!!! And as for the "Grandad" bit - I know it's giving you great pleasure to have somebody around who's actually older than you - but like a car it's not how old it is but how many miles it has on the clock!!!!
nice build not sure if i'd be arsed with the dt wheels unless getting a super recession busting price. There not exactly what you call a value for money wheel set. Some nice mavics or some hope hoops with a pro II and dt 4.2d rim are probably better value
DT are silly, I was working on a friends pair there last week, And had to use tyre levers to get a tyre off a 26" tubed rim, it was harder than my tubless mavic rims ?
I have the DT wheels and I wouldn't buy them again. I put so many dings in the rims in france this year and broke a few spokes aswell. If you want flash get the mavic sx , tubless ready aswell , if I was buying again I'd go for hope pro 2 hubs on mavic tubeless rims, bomb proof and every shop will have the bits. Look at the slx stuff aswell its cheaper than xt and pretty much the same weight. I have the cranks on my dh bike.
I agree with Joe plus I have the SX cranks on my Xc bike, nicer than the XT i wore through last year,Alfie has the PRO II hubs and the mavic tubeless rims ( i can't remember the model) they'll be my next set of wheels. Having said tht I've had the Mavic Sls for the past 2 years. Al serviced them and they are still bang on. Considering the abuse I put a bike through, i'd rate them very highly. Never had a problem replacing spokes either. Though you need a special tool to true them.
