Can I use 9 speed cassette FC-M532 on my 8 speed drivetrain?

Hi Guys,
my middle ring worn down and was wondering, will this http://chainrings4992.blogspot.ie/20...g-104x32t.html fit with my 8 speed drivetrain or should i expect incompatibility? It says it will work with octalinks and hollowtech cranks, and I have an older alivio crank with 4 bolts. also what is the difference between 32 teeth and 36 teeth? Thanks.

you'l have to replace the entire drivetrain... chain, cassette, rings (middle & big)

thanks oz, i am aware of that - already order 8 speed chain and 8 speed cassette, but still unsure if the middle chainring which is 9 speed will fit this set?

big+small rings are in very good condition as i tend to use the middle one only, so hoping to replace the middle one with a new one while keeping the big and small on my bike. is this possible?

if you dont use them there's a chance you'l get away with it... sure try them and see what happens. cant see any reason why a 9 sp chainring wont work with an 8 sp chain. just make sure the BCD of the new chainring matches your cranks/old chainring.
