Advice sought as I see a good few of you have moved away from 3 x9
is it possible to move to 2 x 9 or is 2 x 10 a better option and is 1 x 10 for the "pros" only?
Since I have to replace my xtr chain rings it might make more sense to switch over to now
Any advice on the cheapest manufacturer / way of doing it?
Any advice on the recommendend ratio's ?
I have a 2X9 and 3X10 and I prefer the 3X10 where I can ride 99% in the middle and big ring. The 2X9 needs the small ring more often which is annoying. Not very scientific I know but I would say 2X10 might be ideal for the likes of us Rob, and we haven't even got into ratios...
Yeh do it now before you spend money on new chainrings. Alfie has all the necessary stuff in stock in the shop. if you go 2X10 it'l cost you a heap more as you'l have to change rear mech and shifters... stick with 2X9.

You're mad in the head.... you prefer 3X10 cause you only shift between 2 rings (big & middle) but you dont like 2X9 cause you have to shift between 2 rings???
the chainlines on 2X9 are better... less wear & less snapped chains

Yeah I know, but it's how they are used and ratios and wot not. I can do most stuff in the middle of the 3X10, but the 2X9 requires the small ring more often, then spins away like a freak requiring a few up shifts on the rear by which time you are loosing momentum and stuff. But it's more a doubt and bash than a true double, it's all very confusing.
Last week, I changed to 2x9 with a bash, it feels much smoother, not sure if it is meant to. Also not sure of my timing, ahead of the cooley, where i could have done with the granny a couple of times, all said, i prefer it and i am also slower than you, ....hope this helps.
