Avid juicy

Hello, I bought a new bike but the brake hoses are to long. how and where do i shorten the hose of the avid juicy ulitamate, at the caliper or the brake lever side? I read something about dot 5.1 brake fluid. and what stuff do i need to order before i start this job. Thanks

but CRC are out of stock, and you need to buy brake fluid seperately (any motor factos would have it)

It's a bit of an awkward job to be honest, you'd also need a proper cable-cutter to get through the hose - maybe something like this or a bit better:

you might consider dropping the bike into the Bike Rack and letting them do it

A big syringe (dodgey looks at the chemist), some small rubber hosing and a GOOD cable cutters is all you need, save the brake fluid, you could just reuse the old stuff, just put it into a jar or something, and I would recommend doing it yourself, it's not that hard and even if you do mess it up then you can just retry it/take it into a shop then, it one of those skills that not really that hard, but damn useful when you need it.

you'll need a new olive and insert for each hose , a sharp blade will cut the hose , just make sure you cut it square. do it at the lever and if you are careful and don't spill much fluid you might not need to rebleed. Buy the bleed kit it makes the job very easy and mess free. .
