Hey, I am looking for an MTb for about e4/500, I would like to do some beginner races in Ballyhoura, and some local trail riding, I don't know if I should go FS or Hardtail. I am 5ft 8, so I'm thinking around 16-18 inch frame, thanks in advance....

i don't know about that Trek but the Giant XTC 4.5 is long gone..€400 - €500 gets you a decent new hybrid..get a bike to work and spend a grand or your only tormenting yourself

I have a specialized Tarmac pro sl with full DA and zipp 303 wheels, I have a Ridley Crossbow with Ultegra and Paul brakes and Ksyrium ssc wheels, I am looking for an MTB, I don't need a hybrid

The Giant looks the best of those two! But neither are going to be great ...... think 6 year old Carerra TDF as a good road bike comparison!

buy the Giant..everything bar the forks is grand..the Trek is a money pit..however get them down to €400 for the Giant..them brakes is ancient and the forks are sh*te !

you have two superb road bikes but want to buy a cheap MTB..imagine what it would be like to ride a road race on a â¬600 ALuminium forked 8 speed entry level bike..if you have that taste in road machines, riding any mtb under â¬1500 is going to be unpleasant for you. Mountainbiking is not something to be taken lightly on a cheap machine and you get â¬1000 minus your tax on the bike to work..don't insult yourself with anything less. Come on now , I have many beautiful machines in the Giant Brand Store, make a trip up to Dublin and I'll talk you in to a machine worthy of a man of your tastes..you can't put a â¬500 goober donkey in to a shed beside those two machines.

I know what you mean about riding a much better bike, but you know, I actually like riding my crossbow and it's about 1/4 the price of the tarmac, I won't be doing a lot of MTBing, just sporadic fun with a few friends-the road biking is competitive for me, I'm really trying to stick to my budget and sure if I get a half decent mtb, I can sell it on for my upgrade as I need it, just had to spend e500 on an operation for the dog as well, so the coins are low.....The bike listed above looks like a sweet ride, but I wouldn't get the value out of even that at the minute, by february I'll be back on the road.....
ive a lovely deal on a trek 8500 pretty much brand new as it didnt get much riding and im lookinf for 700, so save up a bit and make a purchase that wont let you down which the other ones will im afraid.
Don't know if you got sorted, I expect u have by now but I am just about to sell a cube ams pro. It's been customised a bit to bring up from original spec.
