Question re. 2013 cube bikes.

Hi All. I'm new on here. I want to get back into MTB after ten years or so without a bike. I went to look at a 2013 Cube LTD Race yesterday. I noticed that they do not have the Fox forks that last years model had. I have been told that this years one has been "spec'd down" by the guy in the shop and that the 2012 model is the better buy.

He had one of the 2012 ones in stock but not in the colour I wanted. So what I am asking is should I go for the 2013 model or 2012? I can get the 2013 in the colour I want but without the Fox forks. I prefer the look of the fox ones but i'll hold my hands up and admit that I don't know a lot. I'm a bit torn to say the least.

1200 is my absolute top line. I am fairly limited in where I can buy from because of the biketowork.ie site that my company are using for the scheme. I can't buy second hand which is a shame really as there are some amazing second hand bikes in my price range.


@GHMTB'er : Why do you say Cube aren't any use? I have been told / read that they are fairly god bikes. I had a short spin on a LTD race and really liked it. (admittedly not off road)

the 2012 Ltd race was a great bargain, you can get a really nice Giant Talon 1 for €1249, the 29'er version is particularly nice , sure the Fox are great but nothing wrong with the rockshock recons at that price band either.
Cubes are a fine bike but they lack that bit of edge that Giants have, obviously I am biased but Cubes used to make very well specced bikes for the money, and that used to offset the slightly cramped feel of riding one. Its very nice to get a Fox forked €1200 and if you can get a 2012 Ltd race now, then best of luck. Cubes in my opinion are a long way away from designing a really nice bike like the big brands have, they just don't feel right but i have ridden a lot of bikes for a very long time and I know what I like,

I might call in and ave a look at what you guys have. Do you have the Talon in stock at the moment? I have no interest in a 29er. I rode one and wasn't really feeling it.

Cheers for the help lads. I went with the Cube. I ended up getting a good few quid knoced off the marked price so I think it was the best deal I could have got tbh.

Thanks to Richie as well for being a sound man. One of the only shops I have been to that sent me down the road to check out other bikes before I made my mind up. I should be getting the bike in a week or two. What's the story with joining the club / finding trails? I live in Sandyford so Tree Rock is very close to me.
