What Forks???

Good Afternoon All....

Looking at getting new forks for me carbonator something 80/100mm any idea whats good have Fox 80mm on it at the moment are found them good...Heard good reports on sidz??

Think Merlin Cycles are doin good deals on Reba's at the mo.

I'd stick with the Fox's... but go to 100mm..

after that.. IMO.. the only other option worth considering is Rock Shox... either the Sids or Reba's..

Marzocchi seem to have gone a bit pear shaped recently..

Dunno anything about the new DT Swiss stuff but seeing as they are a 'blow-in' in the suspension end of things I'd avoid them for a few years 'til all the bugs are ironed out.. serviceability, spares etc... I think they took over the Pace suspension end of things... which were muck in the first place...

Magura... dunno... avoid in my opinion... see above..

Remember serviceability is a big thing... especially with 'high end' products... and now with OC Tuning on the block the Fox's are definitely worth sticking with..

Rock Shox all the way for me though...

What's happened to Marzuppi, they used to be the default choice, did I read that they have shipped production to Trincomalee or some backwater and quality has dipped? Or is this all rumour?

I bought the new Magura 100mm Durins for the ultra-gay bike- very nice, expensive though - 443 euro

on the standard gay bike, I got the Rock Shox Reba Race's recently serviced and they are now really nice again, definitely recommend them for the 300 euro price tag - though the 2008s are likely cheaper if yo can find them

They're all the same skip- get em, crash, get covered in mud, crash again and sure then they brake- feckin useless

Sand, camels and sun, brings me back- Instead we've got smud, yummy mummys and snow- mmm... maybe it's not all bad, them camels used to give you an awful bite when they got narky.

I would second Fergals choices, I just got a set of those reba's for 300 yoyo's and they seem great, Foxes also, but pricey in this Re?????on, The only thing I would say is 100mm, 100mm 100mm.

Has to be 100mm. 80mm getting dropped by all the manufacturers, even World Cup riders switching finally.

I tried the DT Swiss forks XRC and if you can get over the price tag they are great. Really solid, light weight and performance is great. NOT for heavy riders though unless you go for the more heavy duty XMC 100 which is supposed to be brill. The lockout on the XRC is amazing.

SIDs are a great option, running an '09 one at the moment and no complaints. Loads of adjustment and lightweight. The remote lockout is not the best though.

I have heard bad things about '09 Rebas. Apparantly they have had reliability issues. The '08 fork was fantastic though and good deals to be had.

I ran a 100mm Durin last year and it was amazing. Really stiff, smooth buttery travel and bomb proof. I know Magura had reliability problems in the past but anything I have seen in the last year or two has been really solid.

Fox have a great reputation at the moment and certainly OC Tuning have upped the benefits now that they can be serviced here. James is a legend too. They are heavier, depends on what you want. '09 forks went on a diet though and are a little bit lighter than previous models.

So in short - they are all good

My choice - Durins or SIDs, DT Swiss if you can afford them. But that may change when I test the Fox's next month...

I am Johnny Bike breaker and I have a pair of rebas for 4 years..never even have to clean them..unless you are tickling trout with those other forks you are wasting your time in this abomination of a country with its caustic bogs and pointy rocks..
All them other forks while fancy and claim butteryness, they only need to take most of the bumps out of your descending..

I got a pair of forks serviced by Jimbo lately..and i'm very happy with the job, fixed the bodgejob i did and all !!

I'd definetly emphasise deadliness of the Rebas, I've had 3 pairs and never had a problem with them. Super rigid when locked out for climbing and then a nice plush 100mm. Haven't tried the '09 version though - if you can get a deal on the '08 Reba World Cup that would be the one to go for. I have that on the carbonator - it only comes in at 1427g too which isn't bad for something that doesn't feel like a noodlewhen stressed!
