Best Night Lights?

Hey, its late in the night biking season but I want to check what are the best lights to go for night riding?

Im not sure of the technicalities but Im thinking it needs to last a few hours as last Tuesday night in Ballinstoe I was shown to turn the light off when standing around as the battery didnt hold much energy.

It will cost few hundred I guess and I was recommened not to go for for cheapo lights.

I had a look at a previous thread here and these are recommended- Dinotte lighting and motion solo 139, will either of these do?

Light and motion solo just about ok for night spins Id go for something with LED light which is much whiter.Graham who was out on your last nite ride had a cheap LED maybe he can give you details or any recomendations from others re good LEDs

Go to the Bike Rack, the lads will sort you out.

I couldn't be arsed typing out the complete DiNotte sales pitch again, as you seem to have found it in the old posts. One set of batteries (€17 in Woodies, Argos etc) lasts around 2 hours on full power, a spare set will ensure you have no worries of running out. Order without batteries & charger and it's jsut over €100 for the light (which includes helmet mount, 2 battery holders, etc). €50 will see you sorted locally for batteries and a charger that are much better than what DiNotte themselves will supply.

Leeza, Al should have a Light and Motion Solo belonging to me, I'll give him a charger and you can borrow it for the remainder of the Night rides..

got the hope vision two from joe in holligsworth cycles and its excellent if your buying a new light its the one to get

Dont buy electrons. No lights at all are better than electrons. Electrons. Just say no to electrons. Your friends will laugh at your electrons. Then you will crash your bike cos you cant see cos of the inside-out-light eminating from the electrons. Electrons have stored light from the 1980's. When you go to both "beams" there's a light wave interference thing happens on rendering everything dark.... until you whack yer head when you crash then you're seeing stars & hearing muffled laughter of your "buddies". Dont do it. They're lovely and cheap. Quite compelling. Just say no to electrons. Dont do it!!

Check out the Ayup MTB kit. You get a helmet mounted set and a bike set, 3 batteries (2 3hr and 1 6hr)and awesome power. The battery life is much longer than they say (we got over 5 hours out of a 3 hour battery and didn't empty it). 250 sterling from http://www.ayuplights.co.uk/ .

I'm a self proclaimed expert.. :cool: there will always be some clown who has to go and buy the most expensive stuff and then try justify it with meaningless pointless drivel about burn time and power.. You don't need 5 hour burn times.. you don't need the friggin' power of a small lighthouse.. in fact a feicin' torch taped to your helmet will do if you have to.. You don't need any of that marketing sales pitch bullsh!t that some people wallow in..

You are a beginner / novice MTB'er.. you've been at this less than year.. so you don't need to spend stupid money on something you'll only use 3-4 months of the year max...

Forget about burn time and power.. don't worry about these things.. thats for the magazine reading / dvd watching eejits to argue over.. what you need from night-lights is reliability.. as in bulbs and batteries.. The Dinotte system has all this covered...

How many times have you heard the old excuse 'oh I couldn't make the spin because I forgot to charge my batteries'..? Well with the Dinotte system you can just pop into a shop and buy a set on your way to the spin.. never worry about expensive specific batteries or chargers again.. a standard set of AA will last 2-3 hours.. long enough for any night-spin we do.. If your smart about it you can buy high power rechargeables and a good charger to save on buying batteries all the time..

I use the Dinotte lights myself and couldn't recommend them enough.. cheap price.. cheap & easy to replace batteries.. reliable & light weight.

The entire setup (light and batteries) is light enough to attach to your helmet.. no more fiddling with wires, battery packs, backpacks etc..

yeah but think about how ridiculous you look with them lights..I took one look at the ayup yokes and fell off me chair..
I have the li ion ultra sooper dooper, but I will be buying them Dinottes next year..just so I can be cool like Gerry..

Get the Dinotte. I have yet to break mine over 12 months, a record for any of my bike kit. Tis well bright and takes AA batteries which you can charge in 2 hours.

I have tried all sorts of lights and I genuinely think they are the best. I have been out biking with guys who have lights worth €750 each so I don't think €250 is unreasonable, especially as its 2 light sets. 1 for your helmet and 1 for the bike. They are rugged despite how they look on the website. As to burn time I was pointing out that the batteries last longer than they say.
The Dinotte is 112 each which makes it about the same price if you want two lights. As for messing with chargers I think it's more annoying and expensive to mess around with AAs. Thats kind of the whole point of chargers...?
