Video upload frustrations

Hello..
I have these videos..and unless I upload them in crap quality..they won't upload..
I have one its about 5 mins long and about 500mb..and even though I have Vimeo plus..its taking feckin ages !!
Help me Boffins !!

you need to compress the good quality video so that it will upload quicker and still be good quality
I use a mac so have different software
just googled this so give it a try or just google video compression software.
