Thinking of getting a Helmet Cam for crimbo, any suggestions for something good but not too pricey? aslo some pointers for one's to avoid like the plague.

might look daft, but one of the best pieces of kit I have bought in ages.
allows you to use a normal, compact camera, which in my view allows you to shoot good footage cos there are no issues with focus and field of view width as there are with some of the so-called helmet cam systems.
the strap is really tight and allows you to really secure the camera. and no bother with weight either if you have a small camera. I use a (battered) nikon coolpix S1 and it works great.

There is a head cam comparison review in the new Dirt mag Gary..And GoPro have a HD version of there camera coming out soon. Sham has a go pro wide and it takes excellent video footage both day and night from what i have seen..

i'm with rusty on that one, i have one of them stupid oregon scientific ones..load of me bollix..I did have Fergals old one, but i smashed the camera in a crash..

The one Fergal has seems to be the best size for the helmet but i'm not to sure about the base unit not being water proof, that's a must really.

I suppose you could put it into something but i'd still be worried, maybe Fergal will shed some light on it.
Is it possible to get a helmet cam with which either the camera itself or the PC software has a means of eliminating the shake/vibration which makes a lot of helmet cam footage very rough? They use this sort of thing on the Landrover-mounted cameras used to film horse racing, years ago the footage was all bouncy as the Landrover jolted along a dirt track following the horses, nowadays the footage is really smooth. Just wondering.
the recorder unit comes with a protective case which keeps the splashes off but you shouldn't be using these yokes in the p*ssy weather anyway
the actual camera itself is 100% waterproof so you can stash the recorder in a plastic bag in a camelback etc.. and it should be fine

I have a VHOLDR, and It's deadly. the orgeon ones are sh1te. I don't think I'd bother with HD. the standard one is very high quality, and HD just eats memory, and is a pain to compress to upload. I might sell mine, if your interested...
I also have a bullit cam that plugs into a camera with AV in. similar to richies old set up.
Again, I'd happily sell it.
