help buying a bike??

I'm completly new to this and am considering buying a 2008 Giant anthem 0 for €1600 all original spec, is this a good deal?? owner tells me he paid about €5000 originally??

There really should be a FAQ as this one keeps coming up.

Past advice always boils down to this...

Do not buy a full suss, get a hardtail.
Buy second hand and spend well below €1000.

This really is the best way to get started, if you take to it save the full suss and big expenditure for a year or two down the line.

If you don’t want to take the best advice and have money then the Anthem is a great bike.

€5000 sounds a bit steep. probably when sterling was at 66p - €....
More like £3000....
I'd take don's advice. start on a HT. Don't be dazzled by carbon etc. you WILL fall off, and don't want to break an expensive toy.

That Anthem Zero is a proper full on XC race bike.. its only got 90mm travel on the rear & 80mm travel on the front.. Crossmax SL wheels and the likes... not exactly suitable for someone who says they are 'completely new' to this malarky... buying that bike will be of no advantage to you..

Better off taking the lads advice.. buy a mid range hardtail... if you are completely new to this sport then you should do your time (at least a year) on a hardtail... you'll be a much better biker at the end of it all..
