Hi Folks, as a result of the Development Series I've got a new found love for racing xc, although at the back of the field! I'm looking to buy a new steed to help me on my way! I'm currently on an All Mountain Hardtail with 140ml fox up front. I've decided to go for something a liitle racier but also something that will be able to cope with the blast. So has anyone any advice I can only have 1 bike! Anthem X seems to be the business but the trance X looks like it is probably a little hardier. Any advice greatly appreciated!

It really depends on what you want, the Anthem is "the" XC racing frame from giant, the trance could be raced but is more of an AM bike. If you can I would keep your exising AM hardtail and buy an Anthem for riding and racing. The Anthem would be more than capable of the blast.

Luka if you could give your opinion please that would be great! I would be going for the X3! I've rode a Reign for 2 years and it was an amazing bike and love the riding position so just a bit concerned that the Anthem will be too racy a riding position for all purpose riding!

I have no time for full suss xc bikes and even less for so called AM Hardtails.
An XC bike is a hardtail and an all mountainbike has about 4 to 6" travel.
You have a Cotic if memory serves..
so go get a fork on it thats either 100mm or 12omm. try that out on it.Narrower tyres. see how that feels in the race.
Buy the trance , put the 140's on it and heavier wheels and away you go.

Sorry I just hate the whole AM hardtail and Fullsuss XC nonsense !!!
I'd say one of those so called AM hardtails with the right wheels and forks would make a savage XC bike. But I won't be going down that road unless somebody gives me one !!

Hi there , i had a good look at alot of bikes recently as my previous bike was a lapierre x160 and was too heavy and too much travel for racing.As Fat Fecker said i went with a Giant Anthem x2 from O 'C tuning and have never lookd back.It has excellent fox suspension and weighs 25lbs , feels good on climbs and as fast as u can give it on downhill.I had one concern with the head angle but have' nt had any issues on any terrain.Also there is a very good warranty with Giant bikes.
