Bike for me wife?

My beloveds employer has just opened up the bike to work and she can now choose a bike. The purchase is limited to the Cyclesuperstore for now (odd as I though it could be applied anywhere...) So I am thinking a €1K hardtail, she is not a mountain biker but will venture off road so nothing too gnarly, just the best spec for the money, any suggestions?

That looks the business Don! Really nice spec for the money. Lock-out on the forks would obviosly be important if the bike is likely to spend most of it's life on the tarmac.

It would be a good donor bike as well, she would never notice if I slipped some Panaracers on it!
