anyone any experience of twisted SRAM mechs? Caught a big stick in mine last week and shifting has gone all bandy, pretty obvious twist in the cage. Can these be straightened out with a pliers or in a vice or anything?
First of all check to make sure the bend / twist is in your derailler and not your derailler hanger.. one is much easier to fix than the other..
Also.. depending on how bad the twist is you might get away with simply re-tuning your gears to accommodate the twist.. most deraillers will still work fine with a minor twist.. in fact most people's bikes have a derailler with a twist in it..
If its a big twist then just grab the fooker and bend it gently back the opposite way... do it in small increments so you don't over do it.. be careful not to bend your mech hanger in the process... the other problem with bending your derailler is that it loosens the pivots which increases wear.. although seeing as your mech is now officially fooked then it doesn't matter really..
Gerry forgot something, heat it with hairdryer (I know you have one) or a blowtorch before bending, don't forget to wear your oven mits though, them fookers get hot. You will also need to by some new jockey wheels to replace the melted ones.
Sound advice Don, oven mitts ordered and I've pm'd you about the park rocks. Hanger is very slightly bent, so I'll try to straighten that first, then get to twisting the cage, cheers lads
