Hi all i'm looking for some advice
During the club race last night my front tyre started rubbing the inside of my fork, this hasn't happened before. The wheel is on tight and was recently trued.
Would the bearings need tightened?
Any help would be great.
Thanks
there's a small chance it's the fork, try a different wheel in it.
on my rock shox sids, the wheel doesn't sit straight, it's a know problem (didn't think it got worse over time though)
could be the wheel, but check the fork just in case
If its the fork.. then you've got a serious problem...!! I can't imagine how a fork would allow a wheel sit so far off centre that it rubs against it.. unless its been seriously damaged.. or one leg is shorter than the other... or a dropout is bent or something.. as a result your steering would be all over the shop and the bike would feel like it has a mind of its own..
I doubt very much the fork is to blame.. if a wheel doesn't sit exact centre then it more than likely means the rim / wheel needs to be dished to the frame / fork.. by adjusting spoke tension.. this would need to be done by someone who knows what they are doing (I would highly recommend the Bikerack - Cabinteely for all your wheel building needs).. If the wheel was recently built then it could be a simple case that it needs re-tensioning.. check the spoke tension by grabbing handfuls of spokes and squeezing.. if they are loose you'll notice straight away.. loose spokes will allow the whole wheel rim to flex considerably when cornering or under load..
If the bearings in the hub are loose enough to allow the wheel to rub off the fork then.. your bearings are fooked.. grab the wheel & move it from side to side while its clamped in the fork... if the bearings are that loose then the whole wheel should be quite rattly and the problem very noticeable..
Thanks for the quick replys.
I have a feeling it might be a bit of both, I have sid worldcups and I have noticed the wheel doesn't sit completly centered only by about 2 or 3mm. Also the wheel seemed to flex under load while cornering so it might be the spoke tension. I'll drop it down to the bike rack in the moring before I go to kilruddery and see what they can do for me.
Ok The Mavic Crossmax SLR problem is now a Rockshox Sid Worldcup Problem!
There is a crack under the arch on the lowers causing the fork to flex!!
Thus I need new lower legs.
