Years ago I started experimenting with tyres, it all started one day in Djouce when I noticed how badly my front (bombproof) Highroller was clogging at slow speeds, so it began.
First up up was a Swampthing, amazing winter tyre that never clogged and had amazing grip when things got schlompy, rode it well into the summer. I loved that nobbly yoke.
Then came Panaracer Trailrakers in attempt to run something lighter, that was a fiasco, three punctures on the first outing coming off Scarr put an end to that folly.
Ignitors then, can't go wrong as we all know, eventually changed them as felt the shoulder was too rounded for the off camber madness that is Djouce. I was wrong about that.
Bulldogs next, could be the best tyre ever, never let me down and provided amazing grip in all conditions. Rode that bad boy for years.
More recently Rubber Queens. They look good on paper, big volume, aggressive, wide tread pattern. Good in the dry, won't spin out on slow, slippery climbs, but they are a tad squirmy at low pressures and the grip goes AWOL in the wet. I've had the front wash out twice now, and I put a premium on front end traction.
So it is coming off the front. And the replacement?
A Maxxis Highroller 2.3 Supertacky, and off we go again.
