10 hours Max !!

Well done Max - great achievement in tough conditions! Didn't envy him at about 5pm when the heavens opened!
Thanks!

Ok, here is the quick report (photos tomorrow)

Started from the Nutgrove side of Marley park, at 8:13 (we were a bit late). I couldn't see Andrew anywhere so I cycled around the park slowly and then up Kilmashogue where I met Smithers (near the top he was, foostering on his new bike).
The weather was not ideal... wind, rain and cold (around 11ish degrees) but I wasn't going to give up.
We got to Cloon at a very steady pace where Smithers abandoned the ship and cycled back to work. So I went the usual way to Glendo enjoing the sunny bits and hating the wind around White Hill, I was nearly blown off the sleepers numerous times.
Got to Glendo after 12:00, had lunch and left the Hotel car park around 12:30.
I called Rudolf who cycled from home to Glenmalure and he was waiting there for me.

The climb out of Glendo was fine, I know it well and I know how to pace myself on it. The bit between the sleepers and the fireroad was dreadful though, had to walk down it as it was just full of mud and massive slippy rocks.

Met Rudolf in Glenmalure and we started to cycle out of the valley towards Slieve Mann... now that was harded than I expected. Poor Rudolf had to listen to me moaning about the climbs being so feckin steep! I started slowing down a lot and the middle and the biggest cog became my best friends (for most of the climbs thereafter!).

The worst was still to come, the ferocious grassy rocky sheep trails around that horrible mountain near Rudolfs village (Tinahely)!
Once we got to the road going to Tinahely Rudolf went home (he did a savage spin as well at that point!) and I motored on.

The next bit wasn't great, some farmland road littered with cattle gates and very rough terrain so it was a slog. Luckily the next section was tarmac...

Some kickers though, steep as fcuk! (around the 105th km). I was glad I was on my hardtail as I found myself stand up a lot just to be able to get up those...

Then the hills got smaller but I got weaker so every climb was a battle, every descent a bliss.

I got to Clonegal at 18:11 so just under 10h, moving time was around 8:50ish (I have to check) and average moving speed around 14kmph.

I drank 4l of water and one red bull (in Glendo)
I had 2 energy and 2 protein bars
6 gels
3 bananas
2 chicken sambos (in Glendo)
some fruit cake

All in all a great challange and great day out, highly recommend it!
Would I do it again ..... NO F**KING WAY! :D

Garmin trace (battery died around Glendo and again later so it's not 100% accurate)
