As you climb out of Powerscourt you go up through the first section of gorse, dip under the fallen tree then through a bit more gorse until you come out near the first gate. Instead of going through the gate scramble up the bank to the left (there should be "steps" cut in) where you'l find a double track path. Ride up the path for about 150 meters and you'l see a turn to your right (look for tyre tracks). Follow the short single-track over the fallen tree and you'l pop out just past the last gate... presto... all the gorse bypassed.

Heh heh. My first ever proper fall from a Moutain Bike was over the handlebars right into a gorse bush. I looked like a bad junkie down the right side of my body...
I really want revenge on that gorse. I might just go mad with a hedge clippers. Do you think the gatekeeper would raise an eyebrow if we go past with cutting equipment?
Clippers? I'm thinking dynamite and agent orange, maybe a cheap former Soviet Union nuke off ebay.
A hand-saw or hole-saw in a Camelback would suffice
