Was thinking of heading to a mate in wales and he sent me this - just thought id share the info in case anyone was interested. some nice trails with weird names.
Im heading to Shropshire I believe. Hopefully heading in Feb for a few days.
If checkout out the movie of the black run on the first site up there and its very small - do you know any other links with good footage of the tracks.
Your best bet is you tube. Are you after trails or dh? Trails, you have llandegla by wrexam. That ll be the closest to you. Black s really good.
for dh have a look at foel gasnach. If you can t find it are you of facebook, if so go and have a look in mine (gareth wyn roberts) photo of me on my bike in the snow. It s in my groups with a few vids. Closer to snowdonia, for an awsome dh blast can t beat snowdon :-). Opposite you have the quarry. Freeride heaven. Then further back you have moel y ci.
My mate is picking up a nice XC bike but I would be more DH myself. Im not super or anything but Im ok. - I can jump but those gap things still freak me out. hoping to get over that by learning somewhere with not to freekie landings. Thought that mighthappen in wales. - well at least start anyway.
Ill check out the facbook later tonight when I get a bit of time.
cheers gareth. that info is deadly. I like the sound of checking out the quarry.
sounds class
the quarry is awsome. it's not way marked or anything. it's 3 miles away from my house. if i'm stil in wales i'll show you the best way down. if not i'll direct you best i can.
moel y ci, which is aprox 2 miles away from thw quarry is a must if you like dh. (have a look on you tube). they are a good hour/ hour and a half away from where you'll be though. you could have a good few runs in at both places if you start early enough.
xc in n.wales. llandegla as ive mentioned. a must on the black. further my way you have the 'marin' at betws y coed. i like this even though it's not a huge challenge. it's 27k and way marked.
5 miles away you have penmachno loop 1 & 2. loop 2 is puer xc single track that takes you out way in to the wilderness. not much up or down just pedal, pedal, pedal!!!! ok in summer for a training seshion, but otherwise not for me. (photos on my fbook wearing red jacket)
loop 1 has some really good downs, as well tough ups : (. loads of single tracks.
then you have the famous coed y brenin. 'the beast' which takes in the best of the other two trails 'mbr' and 'dragons back' both good but 'mbr' is best imo. then you have the old 'red bull' now called 'tarw' which is bull in welsh. they have spoilt it a bit by leaving out the best section at the end so it finishes at the relocated caffe/ car park.
chli-machx outside machynlleth. the longest dh finish in wales. basically the the first bit is the climb then the end a really good (i think black) dh all the way in to the car park!
further south to aberystwyh you have the 'continental' trail. apparently really good. i haven't bothered because it's a 4hr round journy and i have the rest so close. but i'm dying to give it a go on a nice day.
there are loads of other dh around and a couple of dirt jump parks, but not easy to find. if i'm about i'm more than willing to show you.
