Well here we are !
Now .. a lot of people lay claim to 3 Rock/ Ticknock and think they own the place..let me fill you in. All the trails you see now are the result of a handful of people who built the original trails..some were lost to lack of use but these people are the heart of the place.
In order of historical significance
Robin Seymour and John Pennyfather, nearly all lost to the tree munchers..the Kilmashogue Singletrack is the greatest loss to Irish Mtb ever
Sean Herlihy
Paul McCarthy
Dan Morrough
another lad whose name escapes me Alan ?, they built the first one, PADS , Paul/Alan/Dan/Sean
then Sean built as part of a FAS scheme whats now called Rock N Roller, he could have also built the original MAD course but that could have been any number of people including Robin,Me,Giller, Joe and a cast of hundreds..

Dave Celtic - I doubt anybody has put as much work in to 3 Rock as this lad...for sheer volume and workrate hes thrown up some amount of trails. I hear the names of them but they make no sense to me..I just ride along like everybody else after they've been built, revived.
A lot of people use Ticknock these days to ride their bikes and loads of people think they were the pioneers of the place..there was even a video made about the roots of Irish Mountainbiking which descended in to Bull****..
But heres the thing..2 of the first ever Mountainbikers in Ireland were brothers..
Derek and Gary Monson..oh yeah, Stillorgan Cycles , then a friend of mine Tommy Heffernan , who introduced me and my mate Lar to
3 Rock..and then the rest is history, including the day I met Mac the Knife and his mate Andrew on Fairy Castle on his homemade bike over 20 years ago..
Derek is Scott Bikes Ireland and Gary is the Rep for Huet distributers
3 Rock is where I also met Fergal and introduced him to the Saturday Morning screamer and we became friends.
In the between times James McCluskey and the Kamikase club and their Bum trail was a legendary trail, not to mention the huge efforts of John Pennefather hacking away in the woods..
For most of us its only up the road..
I can also remember a young Niall Davis running a DH race up there and incurring the wrath of Coillte too..we're no the first you know.
If I have forgotten you I apologise..its been a long long time..the purpose of this monologue is to remind people that at the heart of Mountainbiking in Ireland is the people. Its people that build the trails and pave the way, its the people who make the difference.
