It was a tough course but rewarding when you crossed the finish line , Paddy did really well coming in second and i came in fifth, overall it was a great race and totally worth going up for .

i'll give it a shot...at the national champs in djouce i made silly mistakes. So off to castlewellan to show myself that i did take a few things from djouce.
even the parts of the course that were pure schlomp was deadly and left a maso smile on my face, the steep technical descents...for me, were hard. Riders from Banbridge and XMTB McConvey Cycles and from other clubs occupied the u16 race,the u16 riders had two laps of hell on the hills both on the fireroad and the singletrack throughout the course and no recovery on the downhill sections so now i'm shattered. the whole course posed a threat of falling off at any moment..i felt anyway. what a day in the north, the rain held off and the whole course was deadly, well worth the trip and deadly overall.

Paddy, we've all done it loads of times ..in fact as I recall it was the very first race I encouraged early EPIC to go to...Dan I need two paragraphs from you !

Well, I should also point out, well done to those two young lads from Epic.
Yesterdays course was Savage.
The nationals was one for breaking bikes, yesterdays was one for breaking hearts and minds.
The rain that hit up here all week leading up to it really had me doubting that I would be able to ride any of it.
It was quite a different loop than you may be used to Richie. The switchback climb and the switchback descent at the end were still in as was the misery climb and the long swoopy section up the top, but there were a lot of wee changes, wee bits rode in reverse, new linking singletrack to cut out a huge portion of the start/finish fireroad. It was shorter in distance than usual, but still a good 20 minute lap for mortal men (Gareth McKee and Roger Aiken Don't count)
I thought I suffered badly at Djouce, but I suffered a much darker world yesterday, particularly on the last lap after going bananas on laps 1 and 2.
I have to say well done to the two lads for making it round in one piece, but seriously, those are some seriously savage lap times from young Patrick.

Okay details , we lined up at the start paddy on the very left me on the very right, two banbridge riders in the middle bu then they decided to put me and paddy at the back with two goobers.We still started well paddy getting into second quickly and me in third as we started the climb to the first section the track was dry but there was a few exceptions i was feeling good the first lap but by the time i got to the first climb i feeling a little worse it didnt get any easier , every time there was a decent there seemed to be an even bigger climb i tjink 2 laps was enough , i was shattered after but obviously delighted finishing a tough course like that . Got a sausage sambo and i was off home to sleep for a day or two
