Howareyiz..I know me and the Mighty McCall talked about it as did the Baldy Bob lad..but as I've retired from racing I need to feed that habit of pushing it..so I was thinking, Dublin-Kildare-Laois-Tipperary-clare-Galway-Mayo.

I get a pain in my tits reading about goobers trying the trans Germany and the end to End of the isle of feckin Man...jesus..they sound like the square root of boredom..I bet if you were smart you could do some serious offroading between here and frickin Mayo if you put your mind to it..
Has someone not tried to do the mtb stage race across Ireland? I think it failed miserably as it was too boring (something like 70% tarmac and farm roads) and too expensive.
I think this could work as an adventure race with mixed disciplines but I struggle to see where you would find enough offroad, between Dublin and Slieve Bloom is one example? I remember when I did the WW, it was quite boring once you got past Glenmalure, too many farm roads, cattle gates etc. And that was still technically in the Wicklow Mountains...
How about Galway to Donegal? Plenty of hills there all the way...

Hey Richie-I think it's a fantastic and very achievable plan. we could get a few O.S maps and find way-marked trails. There have been plenty of proper adventure races (mt biking not road biking) check with Paul Mahon & Eoin Keith. I'm sure Niall Donovan in MBCC would know most trails in Munster. There's plenty well known stuff in Carlingford and Castlewellan -Johnny McCabe would know more I'm sure. I'd love to do something like that..

Mountain bike the Ho Chi Minh trail from Laos to Vietnam as a charity Fund Raiser - temple st etc.
But with twist - non stop.
