Race Categories for 2013

Hello..for 2013 I am suggesting people into categories to help the XCO guy, ( can't recall his name ;0 ) get people promoted, etc..
First of all , if you feel you are unable to continue in the category you were in this year 2012 then email him
maciej.staroniewicz@gmail.com<maciej...cz@ gmail.com>;

so , if you were off the pace in 2012 and have no real plans to race Senior 1 in 2013..send an email and ask to be downgraded.
Senior 2 Epic riders

Micky Dardis
John Doris
Colm McGarvey
Damian Mulchrone
Oscar Macananey
Brian Hutchinson
Niall Quinlan
Terry McDonagh
Stephen Pollock
Darragh Mortimer
Ken Farrar

There might be a couple more but the way I see it and please by all means argue your case , is that all these guys can have a great race against each other nd are consistently good riders. There might be an argument for some of them to move up into senior 1 but as my personal opinion of the Senior 1 riders is that most are fooling themselves , I think these boys will get a better race in S2.
The same goes for some that would dominate s3..train harder ! you belong in S2

Senior 3
Ray Doyle
Phil Tighe
Darragh Smith
Richard Lynch
Dave McM****
Colm Pattison
Graham Hand
Donough O Keefe
Owen Cullen
John Harrington
Don O Connor
Gareth Fair
Steo Gordon

There are loads more but you get the idea, now theres nothing to stop you from staying in Senior 1 if you are John Doris or Niall Quinlan but lads, you have nothing to prove and I think you would inject some amount of quality in to the senior 2 Cat.
This is just a guideline for people and I am motivated by seeing the Cats being a better race, rather than rewarding or demoting people.
ANd no way are we entertaining any S4 riders in EPIC..if you are weak, get training.

You have till April so get training ! and don't give me that sh*te that you are only going to do the Gravity Enduros..XC racing is the best way to train for them. If I left you off the list its because I can't remember everybody !
Its been my experience that people will race if they get a good race against their peers. Finishing 20 minutes behind the winner of your cat is not a good race. Racing is meant to be hard and enjoyable and we want to see everybody racing.
But as I have said by all means argue the case . It will serve to enlighten and amuse the EPIC membership.
Just remember that if you can put a better selection than myself please do..I just thought I would get the ball rolling.
Richie
Can't argue with the above Chief...

Certainly don't believe anyone who can keep up with a spin should be in S4...

S2 looks like it will have some great battles with those you have specified above..
Though we spotted Ray Doyle and Phill Tighe out doing some sneaky training so you may have to upgrade them to S2!
Thanks for that Richie!
Agree with all the above.
There will be several riders upgraded based on last year's results and those won't be up for discussion (unless they come up with a really good reason!). Unfortunately that list doesn't include any of the above so all of you will have to decide yourself if you want to upgrade (you better, can you imagine the slagging if you don't??!). There are no official downgrades for 2013.
The official announcement will be made before the 1st of Jan 2013.

I never saw them :( ah now you see theres the thing..both of them are great riders but they don't race enough to be S2 material in my opinion. But if they decide to race a full season then yeah, What S2 is, is the very best of Vets and Masters ( with a couple of exceptions) and anybody on the edge of S1, I am trying to be fair and create racing based on equal ability, I would suggest that anybody with doubts , race a couple of the Blitzes and see how you get on , however they are not a great indicator for regular racers as Smithers beat Alfie in the first of this years one..but it might help somebody inexperienced figure it out.
Oh yea, they were caught coming down by "Tom's climb"

Great turn around to go from being Blitzed in the Blitz to National Champ!
I agree with your selection... I would at least get a race in senior 3. I have tried senior 2 and even on a good day never had a top 10 finish. Feel I do better in the longer marathon races.
now..bear in mind these things..
We all want the XC NPS to be a success in 2013, 2012 was a disaster due to the complete lack of interest in it by the last XC Co Ordinator. With Max we have a man who has had great success at the top, hes also scarily anal about his training so hes a good man for the job.
Lets face it, The S2 and the S3 are the races, they get the consistent riders in them, whereas the S1 gets Robin and whoever can see him at the end of the race..its the worst category to be in ..ok, Alfie, Mark mcGauley ,Maxand Gar McKee might get a decent race against each other but theres probably 10 lads in it ..whereas in S2 there could be 25 lads within 5 minutes of each other. The top s2 guy changes at nearly every race , whereas with S1 , once RObin turns up the result is there, if he doesn't its going to be one or two others..
S3 is the same as S2..theres an army of people going for the top, it also means people like Ray who is a savage rider, gets more experience and more confidence ..
but with the half arsed NPS that we were handed this year we have to look at whats going to encourage people to ride the wholoe NPS.
My Experience with that is people will travel and race every round if they think its possible to get anything from 1 to 10 in the race..thats the Golden Zone..
Its way too easy to go fcuk that I'm not going, I'm stuck in S2 and I'm going to be lapped again..I hate the attitude I'm not travelling across the country for a 60 minute race..
So go and pollute the wrong category with your inability and con yourself in to thinking you are having a race..
its relative, its not how long you are racing for, its how hard you race and how close you are to winning. Winning is not just everything, its the only thing. The reason we are not producing Robin Seymoures year after year is because we have slid in to the world of " its all about participating !" thats what sportives are for..
Theres no room in mtb for passengers..we need a higher standard of rider and we won't get it fooling ourselves, be realistic, commit to the NPS or go and do triathlon where its all about the Personal best and the elastic fookin laces in your runners !
Oh S4 , if you have one leg and just bought your first bike..that will do you..if an EPIC person wins an S4 race, then they can just feck off to a lesser club..we are not encouraging mediocrity in this club !!
Ah this is a good tread,Looking forward to these races and that S2 cat will be scary at times.Wonder whose being upgraded from 2012
Spin the beans Max!!
Graham there is no such thing as sneaky training , Richie i have no problem with s3 i enjoyed the few of them i did this year and
the top ten in s3 is very strong .
i know that Phil..thats why I stuck you in there ! S3 is a brilliant category..Jesus, look what it did for Jack and Terry..! as for Grahams comment about sneaky training, I bet you and Ray didn't walk down anything or avoid puddles ! It never ceases to amaze me how people put their heads up to be shot at !!
All names mentioned in those cats are well suited to it,and i think theres no reason why we cant podium every race with these people.I also think Canto would be good for S3 and Annesley.
yeah, I'd put them in there..where were you today ? did you think I wouldnt notice ?
Maybe!!...ah no i cant seem to shift this feckin man flu thing and im as weak as a kitten,i hope to make the spins over the holidays and just get myself better so i can get back training hard in the new year.
