29er Tyres???

What for?

XC and trail use, I'm living in Dundalk so I'd ride round the Cooley's quite a bit Thriller route etc, and the trails up in Rostrevor.

Both of those would weigh about 1000g each ...

Go for something like the Rocket Ron/Racing Ralph about 400g lighter for the pair

There enduro tyre's and 2.3 is a bit wide for xc in my opinion! I use Continental x-Kings 2.2 for similar stuff with no trouble plenty of grip and fast rolling. If things get really soft and muddy maybe go to Mountain king 2.2. Maxxis ignitors are a good option too used them in the past.

2.25 Rocket Rons or 2.2 X-Kings as suggested but if you're running tubeless pay the extra for the Snakebite/Protection option! The tyres you're suggesting are overkill for XC/trail use!

Great job thanks for the advice guys, I was also contemplating a specialised combo Purgatory control and a ground control rear 2.1 or is this overkill too?

The Purgatory control's are supposed to have thin sidewalls, so as RL has said, go for the Snakeskin/Protection options or the tyres will shread in no time if the terrain is very rocky...

I run the purgatorys on my 29er and find the excellent, grippy and fast rolling, set up tubeless and no punctures after 6 mths use

The purgatory and x control came with stumpjumer I got 1 month out of them both side walls gave up there sh*t, mountain kings r on my xc bike 18 months no issues yet.

Forgot to mention my current setup is Nobby Nic up front and Racing Ralph on the back!

Nothing wrong with that combo for what you describe, maybe beef up the rear a bit.
