As Killian said to me on the top of Fairy Castle it was like a migration of mountainbikers.
Nearly 60 people out today on 3 rock, all ages, shapes,sizes,gender..and Luke.
Some craic..especially on the bridge of Doom on KDM..so many near death moments, from Shona and leeza to Martin..and the guys who went splat after they cleared the bridge.
For those of you too scared to ride the bridge, i'm not angry..i'm just disapointed !!
I'd just like to say fair play to all the people who turned up today..some very funny videos to come..and a few photos. But somebody else needs to take the videos and photos in future..i'm too giddy !!
And if you ever needed a reason not to do hill running then today you got it.
Holy jaysus some of them were even running the wrong way.

If you missed todays spin you missed out. Some very impressive riding all rund on some dubious bikes..These social spins are a great gauge of how you are going. And a cool way to meet other like minded souls.
As the chap with the beard ( sorry can't remember your name ) said to me and Gerry ,after we were debating the tyre issue !!
" Where do I get the rider to suit the bike ?" For that we awarded him rider of the year !!

Great to see all the old faces and so many new ones, I'd say Epicurians where almost in the minority today. The look on Robins face as TW thundered past the car park, like "I didn't know there was a mtb convention on." What was with the dog on a lead, by jayzuz that was something I've never see, and it was not one of those cool, killer type dogs either. The bridge of slipperiness was such a laugh, never having done it all I could recall was all the tales of doom associated with it, and it didn't disappoint. People were crashing into the mosh pit to rapturous cheers.

You might want to rename the social spins as " get better or die tryin' " and the club motto to "EPIC- making you do stuff you wouldn't do on your own".

The scene at the Bridge of Doom reminded me of the opening of Gladiator - misty forest and hundreds of savages baying for blood!!!
I confess to being one of those who was "too scared" to ride the bridge and I'm sorry if I dissapointed you Richie but obviously your entreaties to the "Epicurian" God were answered - I had a major "straight over the bars" followed by "head plant" on the way back down to "The Light" - only consolation was that there was nobody to see it!

I don't recall threatening to kill anybody, so it must was a most definite success.
hats off to the fast lads there today, none tried to crease the less fit.

Not true. While we were plodding up that god-awful muddy climb, those mud-festooned runners were dancing their way down it, Nijinsky-like, thinking "Thank Christ I'm not a mountainbiker - they all look feckin' miserable!". We might have thought the same looking at them, but what you need to realise is that when you're hillrunning, even though you're actually ecstatically happy, you inevitably have this face on like you're chewing wasps.

Yeah they're pretty prone to that. Probably so absorbed in the delirious high that accompanies a hill race that they don't really even care where they're going. Keeping an eye out for route markers is certainly too much to expect. Dumbasses.

Perhaps we have achieved what the sports category was meant to - getting the masses into mtb.
