hi all i am looking for info on how to get started in mtb xc racing, i am reasonably fit but have never raced and would love to try, i am not joined any club yet and don't have a bike licence and i live in Cork all info greatly appreciated thanks.

Become a member of the Mountain Bike Club of Cork, they'll be able to sort you out with licences and stuff, and give you a good introduction into the sport.

as Tommy said - get involved with a club - it's definitely the best way to get into biking and racing, making friends and having the craic
note that the first XC NPS (which the national cross country mountainbike racing series) is on in close to Kilgarvan in Co. Kerry on 22 March, hosted by Killarney CC,
so this would be an ideal race for you as it's not too far to travel

Sports racing is cool. You can turn up, with your bike, your Camelback,baggies and Pisspot Helmet, be mocked by myself , ride against similiar warriors. Have a Coronary, ride stuff at speed you normally wouldn't and talk about your exploits with your comrades in the pub afterwards. Takes scalps, have another Coronary,point at the lycra covered pasta weighers, eye up the handful of women in lycra ..hmmmm lycra,
